Yes, most of us would like to forget Jimmy Haynes. But did you know that Haynes actually had a fan at some point? Daedalus ran into him this weekend (scroll down for photographic evidence).
11-16 in June. Not good. But the Redlegs won on my birthday yesterday, so that’s some consolation, I suppose.
Aaron Harang vs. Pat Maholm tonight at Great American Ballpark. It’s time for the Reds to start beating up on the Pirates and Nationals of the world. If they can’t do that, the chances for a .500 season are even worse than I thought.
Discuss it here….
A couple of months ago, we noted that the Reds would be wearing camouflage jerseys sometime over Independence Day weekend.
Well, turns out the Reds will be wearing the following caps this weekend, as well:

Yes, that’s navy blue. Every team will be wearing navy caps, for some reason.
It’s a great charity, and I’m glad to see MLB supporting it, but let’s be honest: seeing the Reds wearing navy caps and camouflage jerseys is going to be simply ridiculous-looking.
Plus, I’ll be at those games with my family, and my kids will probably be asking where the players I watch on television are.
Red Hot Mama loves her Reds.
Louisville 4 - Toledo 2

Matt Maloney picked up the win and pitched a complete game. Maloney allowed 2 runs on 3 hits while striking out 8. Maloney is now 8-4 with a 4.32 ERA.

MVP of the Ohio Series, that is:
After finishing the game 1-for-3 with the home run and 3 RBI, Dunn was asked if he was to receive some sort of Ohio Cup trophy.
“I don’t know what it is. I have no idea. I had a good speech prepared and everything,” he joked.
Dunn was tabbed for the award for his play on defense as much as offense. He had a couple of great catches in left field Sunday, and at least one great throw. He caught Casey Blake at second after Blake singled to left field.
Plus, that was a great hit Dunn laid on Cleveland’s catcher, Kelly Shoppach, at the plate yesterday. I have no idea how Shoppach held onto that ball.
At any rate, it’s good to see Dunn getting some credit for his defense. He’s never going to be a great defensive player, but he’s definitely better this year than he has been in years past.
The 1970’s:
Record: 953-657 (.592) The Reds had the best record in baseball during the decade, edging the Orioles (.590) for the honor.
Best Team: Which was better, the 1975 or 1976 Reds? The 1975 team won more games and had the lower tam ERA, but the 1976 team dominated the statistical categories and swept the post-season. We’ll take the ‘76 club by a whisker.
Worst Team: The ‘71 Reds were the only team of the ’70s not to finish in first or second, and the only one under .500.

Did it really happen? Did the Redlegs, just a day before June ends, finally notch their first winning road trip of the season?
Nice.
With Pittsburgh and Washington coming into Cincinnati, the Reds have a real chance to make some progress. I will be there for the Nationals series, and I hope the Reds are in the midst of getting healthy in the win-loss column at that time.
Fingers are crossed.
A winning road trip? Could it be possible?
Bronson Arroyo is pitching, so don’t hold your breath. Discuss it here.

Johnny Cueto vs. Paul Byrd. Discuss it here….
It’s the halfway point of the 2008 season, and the Cincinnati Reds are 36-45. Not good, huh?
At the halfway point of the 2007 season, the Reds were 31-50. That’s a five game improvement!
Yeah, we’re well on our way to suffering through the franchise’s 8th straight losing season…but we’re getting better!!!
(Forgive me if I’m not particularly excited by this “improvement”.)
