Reds Trivia 5/31/08

June 5, 1989: The Reds select University of Texas OF-pitcher Scott Bryant in the first round of the amateur draft.

Bryant was another “can’t miss prospect” who never reached the majors. The best selection by the Reds was SS Trevor Hoffman who was converted into a pitcher in ‘91. Hoffman become one of the best relievers in the NL, but not for the Reds, who lost him in the ‘93 expansion draft. The only picks from the ‘89 draft to see major league action with the Reds were Ross Powell and Tim Pugh.
