    Hairston
    Bruce
    Griffey
    Phillips
    Dunn
    Encarnacion
    Votto
    Ross
    Arroyo

Thank you Dusty for not messing around with the lineup. Besides Ross against lefty instead of Bako. That’s no problem.

So Patterson volunteered to go to AAA? So even he knew that he sucked?

Wish the game would hurry and start.

Did Baker just admit he was stupid taking Griffey and Dunn out late?

    Good first inning for Bronson.

Looks like JB is even better than Patterson.

  9. Chad
    May 28th, 2008 at 7:24 pm

Bruce walks in his first plate appearance. He has reached base in his first 6 big league at-bats.

  10. Jared
    May 28th, 2008 at 7:26 pm

Good time to jump em and compensate for Weathers, who is bound to show up.

  13. Chad

Come on, Junior. Show the young guys how its done.

  14. Chad

No, Bruce hasn’t gotten out yet.

19 pitches through 1/3 of an inning for Gorzy.

Yeah, he was on first last night when Griffey hit a GIDP.

  17. Chad

What is all that stuff floating in front of the CF camera?

  18. Chad
    May 28th, 2008 at 7:32 pm

Dunn walks. Time for Edwin to show some life.

  19. Chad
    May 28th, 2008 at 7:35 pm

EE rips a double into the corner and scores Bruce. Maybe this whole team is about to come to life.

    wow, looking good!

  21. Chad

Now Votto, the other young gun, dumps a 2-run single into left.

  22. Mike Martz
    May 28th, 2008 at 7:37 pm

umm, are the REDS starting to play like expected, or are the Pirates just that bad?

  23. Chad
    May 28th, 2008 at 7:38 pm

    Now Ross homers! 6-0 Reds.

Batting aroung in the first is always a good thing.

    May 28th, 2008 at 7:46 pm

Kepp took batting practice and says he could be ready to go to Louisville in a week? Great news.

  31. Chad
    May 28th, 2008 at 7:47 pm

Griffey played that one well off the wall and made an excellent throw. That’s good to see.

  32. BenL
    May 28th, 2008 at 7:47 pm

The Pirates learned not to test Griffey’s arm

  33. Mike Martz

runners on the corners, come on Bronson!

  34. Chad

  36. Chad

  38. Mike Martz
    May 28th, 2008 at 7:53 pm

I forgot about Janish, I’m sure we’ll see him called up again.

REDs are up, time to reload those bats and score some more.

  39. Chad
    May 28th, 2008 at 7:54 pm

    Here is Bruce again.

  40. Mike Martz
    May 28th, 2008 at 7:55 pm

LOL, just heard Bronson’s “Together again” comercial and it got me wondering. Could you see Bronson standing in the middle of the clubhouse looking at Votto and Bruce and singing “They’re together again” LOL

  41. Mike Martz
    May 28th, 2008 at 7:57 pm

Bruce lined out to center, stop the presses

  42. Chad
    May 28th, 2008 at 7:57 pm

Bruce finally gets retired. But he hit the ball REAL hard, right at the CF.

  43. Mike Martz
    May 28th, 2008 at 7:58 pm

that was a quick 3 outs.

  44. Mike Martz

  48. Chad

Bronson’s pitches are moving all over the place tonight.

  50. Mike Martz

Arroyo really needs to keep pitching on short rest.

  51. mhopp
    May 28th, 2008 at 8:07 pm

I think now you’ll be able to see this team do something different…”Function”. Morale is up and you’ll see a new offense, defense, etc. rather than beating themselves…Did Patterson really volunteer to go to AAA?

  52. RedRedMan
    May 28th, 2008 at 8:07 pm

Hey Brantley, how exactly do you “run a post pattern down the sideline”?

  53. Mike Martz
    May 28th, 2008 at 8:07 pm

With Bruce/Votto doing well, the pressure has got to be on Dunn and Griffey to play well doesn’t it?
I’m sure there has to be some sort of (oneupmanship) in the dugout.

  54. mhopp
    May 28th, 2008 at 8:10 pm

Arroyo has been saying he pitches better on short rest…Dusty just hasn’t been listening. Sounds like my managers!! They have to see it for themselves first or accidentally discover it. Now Dusty, claim that you’ve discovered something that works so you can help redeem yourself a little.

  55. Mike Martz
    May 28th, 2008 at 8:12 pm

Dunn claims to have fixed his swing by making sure his feet are lined up. He was closing his stance. A little league coach would have caught that a long time ago.

  56. mhopp
    May 28th, 2008 at 8:20 pm

    D. Thompson is his Louisville Debut allowed 1 run (which scored on a throwing error by A. Green) through 5 innings. Five K’s 0 BB…This guy is going to be something I think and will pass Bailey.

    Thanks Ross!

  65. Mike
    May 28th, 2008 at 8:30 pm

Terrible base running by Ross. You never gamble like that with two outs.

  66. mhopp
    May 28th, 2008 at 8:39 pm

This is the Reds team I thought I would be seeing out of the gate this year…totally different than what we have been seeing. They score runs too!

  67. Chad
    May 28th, 2008 at 8:50 pm

Glad Dusty wasted 2 good months with his crush on Patterson. How many more runs would the Reds have scored with Bruce all season instead of Corey?

  68. Y-City Jim
    May 28th, 2008 at 8:52 pm

    One more inning by Bronson?

  69. Chad
    May 28th, 2008 at 8:54 pm

3 more hits by Votto tonight. His swing is back. Nice.

  70. Chad
    May 28th, 2008 at 8:54 pm

Yep, one more inning for Arroyo. He is coming to the plate now.

  71. Y-City Jim
    May 28th, 2008 at 8:57 pm

Dusty’s good son drives in a run.

  72. Y-City Jim
    May 28th, 2008 at 8:59 pm

Do they honestly think he is going to swing at those balls out of the zone?

  73. Chad
    May 28th, 2008 at 8:59 pm

Another walk for Bruce. 5 walks in 2 games. You would expect him to be more anxious in his debut and swing a little more.

He is a very mature player.

  74. mhopp
    May 28th, 2008 at 9:04 pm

    Darryl Thompson Louisville Debut…7ip 2BB, 7 SO, 1R 0ER and 4hits
Pretty good, I think we may see him in Cinci before the year is out.

  75. GregD
    May 28th, 2008 at 9:14 pm

One more good start from Maloney in AAA may make him the next callup pushing Belisle to the bullpen.

  76. Y-City Jim
    May 28th, 2008 at 9:14 pm

Somebody is going to be pushing Bellisle out of the rotation.

  77. Stacky from Downunder
    May 28th, 2008 at 9:16 pm

Just wanner throw this out there…..
Another big thing we have to look forward to is being a significant player in Free Agency. With the very talented core that we have I see the Reds having the luxury to pick and choose (well, after the Yanks and Sox have overpaid on who they want!).

Don’t you think that if the money is pretty similar FA’s might look at playing for a serious contender for years to come? I know there is much to happen before the Reds are ‘contenders’, however just say with Jnrs 15+ $million we target (a) a LH starter; (b) Catcher; (c) BP / Set up man (to replace Weathers). I know FA’s in those specific areas are not ‘deep’ but its nice to know we will be in a position to be serious players!

BTW - I really think resigning Dunn to a 5 year deal is priority. If Jnr would consider a ‘friendly’ deal to stay with the home team for 2 more years I would take that as well. You got to be careful what you wish for! Take Jnr and Dunn out of this lineup and opposition pitchers would feel a whole lot better.

And I gotta say I know Gonzo has had two very tough years - but I would not be dissapointed to see Janish/Hairston man the SS position for a couple of seasons. Heck with Kepp there as well that is a pretty solid spot depth wise. Gonzo has 1 more year before he is Gonzo correct?

  78. mhopp
    May 28th, 2008 at 9:18 pm

Holy smokes!! Majewski has his ERA to 3.86 after pitching one inning with 2k’s tonight. He has only given up 1 run in the last 14-15 outings, if he comes back and Stormy Weathers can go…?

  79. Y-City Jim
    May 28th, 2008 at 9:22 pm

I say no to a long term Janish/Hairston combo. Kepp is the SS.

  80. Chris
    May 28th, 2008 at 9:25 pm

    17. What is all that stuff floating in front of the CF camera?

I don’t know exactly, but it’s all over the place here at my house, too (well, outside my house). It’s some sort of blowing tree seed - looks like a fluff of cotton, with a little 1/4 inch speck inside.

  81. GregD
    May 28th, 2008 at 9:25 pm

I don’t want to see Majewski in a Red’s uniform again. If he increases his value to the point that other teams are interested in trading for him, then that’s good news.

The free agent catcher’s market this offseason has virtually no catchers worth signing.

  82. Chris
    May 28th, 2008 at 9:26 pm

Speaking of free agents for next year, at positions of need:

    Catchers
    Rod Barajas (33)
    Michael Barrett (32)
    Johnny Estrada (33)
Jason Kendall (35) - club option for ‘09; vests with 110 games played in ‘08
    Paul Lo Duca (37)
    Miguel Olivo (30) - $2.7MM club option for ‘09 with a $0.1MM buyout
    Ivan Rodriguez (37)
    David Ross (32)
    Jason Varitek (37)
    Gregg Zaun (38)

None of those guys do a thing for me.

  83. Chris
    May 28th, 2008 at 9:27 pm

    Jinx.

  84. Chris
    May 28th, 2008 at 9:27 pm

Dunn is the premiere LF, really:

    Left fielders
    Moises Alou (42)
    Garret Anderson (37) - $14MM club option for ‘09 with a $3MM buyout
    Milton Bradley (31)
    Emil Brown (34)
    Pat Burrell (32)
    Adam Dunn (29)
    Cliff Floyd (36) - $2.75MM club option for ‘09 with a $0.25MM buyout
    Luis Gonzalez (41)
    Raul Ibanez (37)
    Jacque Jones (34)
    Kevin Mench (31)
    Jason Michaels (33) - $2.6MM club option for ‘09
    Craig Monroe (32)
    Jay Payton (36)
Wily Mo Pena (27) - $5MM club option or $2MM player option for ‘09
    Manny Ramirez (37) - $20MM club option for ‘09
    Juan Rivera (30)

  85. Chris
    May 28th, 2008 at 9:28 pm

    Center fielders
    Rocco Baldelli (27)
    Mike Cameron (36) - $10MM club option for ‘09 with a $750K buyout
    Jim Edmonds (39)
    Jacque Jones (34)
    Mark Kotsay (33)
Corey Patterson (29) [I didn't put him on this list]

  86. Chris
    May 28th, 2008 at 9:28 pm

    Right fielders
    Bobby Abreu (35)
    Casey Blake (35)
    Milton Bradley (31)
    Cliff Floyd (36) - $2.75MM club option for ‘09 with a $0.25MM buyout
    Brian Giles (38) - $9MM club option for ‘09 with a $3MM buyout
    Ken Griffey Jr. (39) - $16.5MM club option for ‘09 with a $4MM buyout
    Vladimir Guerrero (33) - $15MM club option for ‘09 with a $3MM buyout
    Jacque Jones (34)
    Bobby Kielty (32)
    Brad Wilkerson (32)

  87. Chris
    May 28th, 2008 at 9:29 pm

None of those guys are worth a crap, except Dunn or his right-handed, lesser twin, Burrell.

  88. Chris
    May 28th, 2008 at 9:30 pm

    61. I think it would incredibly entertaining if George Grande had a roundtable discussion with Pullholes, Harriston and Jockerty.

    Priceless.

  89. Stacky from Downunder
    May 28th, 2008 at 9:31 pm

Yep no douby Kepp is in - but Janish?Hairston gives you solid depth was my point. No real need for Gonzo as such. But can someone confirm his contracted through 2009? Trade him this offseason for prospects? I’d say the Reds would have to eat some $$$ but why not get something for him?

  90. GregD
    May 28th, 2008 at 9:32 pm

Personally, I’d like to see them sign Dunn. Figure out a trade with Seattle for Clement. That would leave them with needing to find a RH hitting CFer or RFer with Bruce playing the other position.

Wouldn’t it be nice to say next year’s starting eight is:
LH - Dunn, Bruce, Votto, Clement
RH - Phillips, Keppinger, Encarnacion, RH outfielder

  91. Bill N.
    May 28th, 2008 at 9:34 pm

Did Votto just have *another* foul-up with the toss to the pitcher?

  92. GregD
    May 28th, 2008 at 9:38 pm

I would have loved to see the Reds be the team to get Carlos Quentin this past offseason. The D-backs “gave him away” for an A-ball 1st baseman.

  93. GregD
    May 28th, 2008 at 9:39 pm

    Carter’s stats

  94. Stacky from Downunder
    May 28th, 2008 at 9:40 pm

I think that just underliness how ignorant all these ‘experts’ who state that the Reds will be much better without Dunn & Jnr. Jnr batting .250 at 40 years old is still better value @ $10 million a year than anyone on that list (as long as he plays in 120 games). The man will hit 25 dingers a year still over the next two years and play pretty decent RF.

Dunn is a priority for me. $55 million over 5 years is money well spent for 40+ HRs and 100 RBIs. Where are you going to get that from otherwise?

  95. Chris
    May 28th, 2008 at 9:42 pm

I was actually clamoring for the Padres to get Quentin for several years (he was a local guy). I didn’t really think the Reds had a spot for him.

I honestly can’t blame the D-Backs - they’re so frickin loaded Quentin was essentially a second-tier guy for them.

  96. Chris
    May 28th, 2008 at 9:43 pm

That Carter guy rakes, especially for his age/league.

  97. Chris
    May 28th, 2008 at 9:46 pm

Tonight’s RLN trivia question: What three Reds have World Series rings?

  98. Stacky from Downunder
    May 28th, 2008 at 9:47 pm

Clement would be great but I cant see the Mariners trading away more young talent after what they gave up for Bedard…..

I would love to have that Ramirez in Texas. They would be still sweet to deal with us after getting that CF from us for Volquez! Maybe send Homer back home for Ramirez and pitching prospects?

  99. Y-City Jim
    May 28th, 2008 at 9:48 pm

Freel gets a late jump then takes the wrong route initially and George Grande gets psyched over the diving catch.

  100. Chris
    May 28th, 2008 at 9:49 pm

Clement’s very unlikely to be going anywhere.

  101. Chris
    May 28th, 2008 at 9:50 pm

Bruce doesn’t look 1000% confident in the routes he’s taking out in CF. He’s okay, but not all the way there, IMO. Still better than Freel, though.

  102. Chris
    May 28th, 2008 at 9:59 pm

Lost in all the hoopla, Joey Votto is on fire. He’s 9 for his last 16, and 12 of 23 over a brief 6 game hitting streak.

  103. ChicagoRedsFan
    May 28th, 2008 at 9:59 pm

Moving Junior down in the order is the next hurdle the team needs to address.

Chris - Arroyo, Weathers, and …. someone.

  105. Chris
    May 28th, 2008 at 10:01 pm

Nicely done, Bill. The last one is a bit of a trick question. I saw the guy on the telecast earlier.

  106. Chad
    May 28th, 2008 at 10:07 pm

    I’m anxiously awaiting the answer.

  107. Bill N.
    May 28th, 2008 at 10:08 pm

Hm, I suppose Mercker counts as a ‘Red’ currently. If so, he’d be a third.

  108. Chris
    May 28th, 2008 at 10:09 pm

Shoot. I forgot Mercker. There are 4, then.

  109. Chris

It’s not a coach or Dusty or anything cheaty like that.

  110. Chris
    May 28th, 2008 at 10:12 pm

Dusty does have one from ‘81, though.
