The Reds will send Aaron Harang out to the mound to try and make it 5 wins in a row for the good guys. The Injuns will counter with 4-1 Fausto Carmona.
Can the Reds keep it going? Discuss it here…

On Fox right now, Ken Rosenthal is discussing the possibility of Griffey being traded.
May 17th, 2008 at 3:58 pm
why is the brewers-red sox game on Fox where I am?? I’m two hours from Cincinnati and 8 hours from Milwaukee….
May 17th, 2008 at 4:02 pm
Good start by Harang.
May 17th, 2008 at 4:04 pm
Greetings from GABP. Light rain starting…full house enjoying their bobbleheads…. Only a psycho comes up with this lineup - best hitters in the 5-7 hole. Prediction: bases unlikely to be clogged.
Harnag looks same as usual, but not supersharp early.
May 17th, 2008 at 4:07 pm
Hairston comes to bat to some song by Chris Brown… Same taste as David Archuletta.
2 batters, 2 feeble outs, 3 pitches
May 17th, 2008 at 4:10 pm
Griffey totally dogged that, even after Garko booted it - no hustle.
BP may well come to the plate to Soulja Boy - not that I can tell.
Weather is now bright sunshine, and a tornado on the rf warning track
May 17th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
Griffey is one of 2-3 guys in baseball who can’t go first to third on that single
May 17th, 2008 at 4:13 pm
The other two being Dunn and Barry Bonds. And only because Bonds isn’t employed.
May 17th, 2008 at 4:14 pm
Having said that, I’m watching the Sox and Brewers and Ortiz barely made it 2nd to 3rd on a single.
May 17th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
Live commentary from the ballpark. Keep it up, Chris.
May 17th, 2008 at 4:17 pm
I’m stuck with the stupid Redsox-Brewers game too. Because everyone wants to watch Boston, of course.
May 17th, 2008 at 4:20 pm
If you say so.
May 17th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
Nice play by Patterson. That ball hung up for him, but he went a long way
May 17th, 2008 at 4:34 pm
How nasty does Carmona look live Chris? Im listening on radio so all I can do is listen to JB mumble about him
May 17th, 2008 at 4:55 pm
I saw on the schedule that the game was on Fox, but we’ve got Boston-Milwaukee too. Woohoo.
I sure hope the Reds can get Harang some runs.
May 17th, 2008 at 5:07 pm
72% of the country is getting the Boston game on FOX today. 7% get to see the Reds & Indians.
May 17th, 2008 at 5:28 pm
FOX did this last year too. By moving the game from FSN to FOX, they’re actually reaching FEWER people. Grrr!
At least I got to see the Pirates beat the Cubs on CSN today.
May 17th, 2008 at 5:40 pm
Alright, Brandon!
May 17th, 2008 at 5:41 pm
Thank goodness - Phillips picks up the 2-out RBI after Griffey fails to get the runner in from 3rd.
May 17th, 2008 at 5:42 pm
How about something out of Votto here to break out of his big slump?
May 17th, 2008 at 5:45 pm
Okay, tie game here and the Redlegs have new life. Time to win this game….
May 17th, 2008 at 5:53 pm
Harang is so ridiculously consistent, it’s amazing. So far, 7 innings, 1 run. (101 pitches.)
May 17th, 2008 at 5:53 pm
Watching Jr at bat is just painful … the more he keeps swinging the bat like this, the less likely even Seattle is going to want to trade for him. I’d almost be willing to bribe opposing teams to throw BP to him so he could get 3 homers and get this uninspiring run to 600 over with and we can move on.
May 17th, 2008 at 5:56 pm
Ok Adam, time to earn a little of that $13 million contract … at leaast get EE to 3rd
May 17th, 2008 at 5:57 pm
Big error - take advantage of the leadoff runner at 2nd! Unless there’s a homer here, Harang will now likely be pinch-hit for after all.
May 17th, 2008 at 5:58 pm
Good grief … I give up on this guy
May 17th, 2008 at 6:06 pm
Oh yay - David Weathers on.
May 17th, 2008 at 6:08 pm
You know, in the 6th the Indians also had a leadoff runner at second, and he didn’t advance a base before being stranded. Nary a word.
May 17th, 2008 at 6:10 pm
LOL … boy .. you called that one Dev
May 17th, 2008 at 6:10 pm
David “Danny Graves” Weathers strikes again.
May 17th, 2008 at 6:10 pm
Stormy strikes again.
May 17th, 2008 at 6:11 pm
43,023 are in the park to watch Weathers blow another one.
May 17th, 2008 at 6:12 pm
Why does Weathers keep getting the ball in close games?
May 17th, 2008 at 6:13 pm
Top of the order up in the 8th…which means that the Reds have a chance in the 9th.
May 17th, 2008 at 6:14 pm
and another for another year, we have to ask, who do you go to in this bullpen in a close game?
May 17th, 2008 at 6:14 pm
Alright, top of the order coming up!
May 17th, 2008 at 6:15 pm
man i hate corey patterson. get him off of this team already.
May 17th, 2008 at 6:16 pm
“Why does Weathers keep getting the ball in close games?”
Because he is a “veteran” … right up Bakers alley … be damned the results
May 17th, 2008 at 6:20 pm
you know what this team could use, a really athletic young rightfielder with lots of tools that rakes lefties. that would be great for situations like this. if only we could find a guy like that.
May 17th, 2008 at 6:21 pm
With Patterson leading off, its like we only get two outs this inning.
May 17th, 2008 at 6:22 pm
Carmona not glue
May 17th, 2008 at 6:24 pm
Love you, Junior, but this is getting ridiculous.
And what is Hairston doing out there?
May 17th, 2008 at 6:25 pm
Yet another feeble AB … the end is near.
May 17th, 2008 at 6:25 pm
phillips is going to have to make this comeback happen on his own. hopefully he can really put that chip on his shoulder into one of these swings.
May 17th, 2008 at 6:28 pm
You know Phillips would love to beat his old team here.
May 17th, 2008 at 6:32 pm
Sigh….
May 17th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
Need you here, Bray.
May 17th, 2008 at 6:40 pm
Alright by gawd, its time for some walk off magic …
May 17th, 2008 at 6:41 pm
Let’s win this one in the bottom of the 9th!
May 17th, 2008 at 6:44 pm
There is the 1st runner … way to go JV
May 17th, 2008 at 6:44 pm
Good start. Don’t get crazy on the bases, Votto.
May 17th, 2008 at 6:46 pm
2 on for Dunn in the bottom of the 9th? This is what kids dream of.
May 17th, 2008 at 6:46 pm
2 on, no out. Time for Dunn to do something.
May 17th, 2008 at 6:46 pm
Just what we needed …Here comes Dunner … can he find any magic in that bat?
May 17th, 2008 at 6:46 pm
Not another knee injury, I hope.
May 17th, 2008 at 6:47 pm
i agree with the cowboy on this one, you have to bunt here with dunn.
May 17th, 2008 at 6:48 pm
Check out Kobayashi’s hat in his Gameday pic. They call that the Vicious V. Drives the girls crazy.
May 17th, 2008 at 6:48 pm
If Dunn doesnt get this bunt down, Dusty is going to catch hell
May 17th, 2008 at 6:48 pm
c’mon donkey, get this one down.
May 17th, 2008 at 6:49 pm
I don’t like Dunn bunting. He needs to swing the bat, and at least hit it deep for the same net gain. Plus his strike zone is just too big.
May 17th, 2008 at 6:49 pm
Yeah BABY!!!!
May 17th, 2008 at 6:49 pm
YES! The Reds are going to be over .500 the next time they lose.
May 17th, 2008 at 6:50 pm
If that doesn’t get Baker off this bunting fetish, nothing will.
Hurrah Dunn!
May 17th, 2008 at 6:50 pm
Dunn!!!
May 17th, 2008 at 6:50 pm
yeah, well, or you could do that. which is a lot better.
May 17th, 2008 at 6:50 pm
That ball was CRUSHED…
May 17th, 2008 at 6:51 pm
Great location for a fastball to Dunn, Vicious V. What a pitch to lose on. Has any pitcher ever deserved to blow a save more than THAT?
May 17th, 2008 at 6:51 pm
Just awesome.
May 17th, 2008 at 6:52 pm
Way to beat those Indians! What a way to send a sellout crowd home happy!
May 17th, 2008 at 6:52 pm
OK, Dunn gets a one week reprieve from me picking on him all the time. But I reserve the right to change my decision on that
May 17th, 2008 at 6:52 pm
Baker: I wanted him to bunt foul, just so he could hit the homerun.
May 17th, 2008 at 6:53 pm
Or maybe that means to Baker, “I should have all my best hitters, who have no bunting proficiency whatsoever, try to lay down a bunt in crucial situations - then they can hit a homer after they fail to get the bunt down.”
In the postgame, will Dusty say again, “You know, I was hoping Dunn wouldn’t get that bunt down so he could hit a homer instead.” He’s a genius!
May 17th, 2008 at 6:53 pm
Dunno Jared, I cant see the game, I have to wait til MLB.com posts the replay
May 17th, 2008 at 6:54 pm
I’m still amazed..
May 17th, 2008 at 6:56 pm
Only thing wrong with the way this game turned out is that it wasn’t on my teevee.
May 17th, 2008 at 6:56 pm
Gained a game on the Cubs, too.
May 17th, 2008 at 6:57 pm
I agree with that, DA.
May 17th, 2008 at 6:58 pm
Gameday showed that Ball 1 and Ball 2 to Dunn were both in the strike zone. Did it look like that on TV?
May 17th, 2008 at 8:21 pm
My wife and I went out to grab a bit to eat and got in the car right when Dunn come to bat. Nothing better than hearing Marty call a game winning homer.
May 17th, 2008 at 10:12 pm
I was also looking for the game on Fox today but oh no, it’s RedSox - Brewers. Why doesn’t MLB just have a combination of RedSox, Yankees, Mets and Cubs each and every weekend. It’s become ridiculous.
May 17th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
What a game. Turned out to be a great day, too.
Sorry I stopped the live updates. MLB broke my thumbs.
Highlights: Harang us just remakably impressive - in a completely quiet fashion.
Weathers pretty much stinks.
Votto did ONE HECK of a great job to get a hit there in the 9th. I finally realized who he reminds me of: Adrian Gonzalez. JV has a touch more power, bu I bet that’s almost entirely park effects. JV is faster, but AG is much better w the glove.
May 17th, 2008 at 10:23 pm
Carmona had great results, but (to me), sinkerballers are never all that impressive to watch (Brandon Webb excepted). The ball is usually right down the pipe - guys just can’t do anything w it.
That Kobyashi guy grooved it to Dunn, who nearly blasted it out of sight.
Bunting was the obvious move, in.a vacuum, but I disagreed in this situation: Dunn’s OBP (.350) is probably just as high as his chance of getting a bunt down, so why not let him try to get the runner over via hit or walk. Also, the hot dog eating champ was wild as heck. Also, do you really want to set up a situation where you’re counting on Bako and Freel (or Javy), followed by Patterson to tie/win the game?
May 17th, 2008 at 10:24 pm
No clue why I could only get the Boston-Milwaukee game on FOX Indianapolis. They almost always show Cubs or Cardinals here on Sat, without a Cubs game, why didn’t we get Cincinnati??
Anyway, watched the highlights on BBTN. wtf is Baker doing bunting Dunn with 2 on and nobody out? BBTN correctly pointed out that this was exactly like the Encarnacion situation earlier this year with the same game winning HR as a result.
May 17th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
Glad to see Dunn on a 3-game HR streak!
May 17th, 2008 at 10:26 pm
Also: the crowd was really into it once Dunn came up, but to that point, the biggest cheers (by far) came when they showed Big Brown’s win during a pitching change.
May 17th, 2008 at 10:27 pm
Chris - great point at #82. Wasn’t Encarnacion batting this low in the order on his bunt attempt? 7th? Then needing catcher, PH or patterson to win the game? You’d definitely rather not take the bat out of Encarnacion’s hand in that game or Dunn’s hand in this game in that situation.
May 17th, 2008 at 11:03 pm
Is anyone going to the “Ins and Outs of Baseball” on July 12th? Is it worth going to?
