Doubleheader Game Thread: Reds vs. Mets

A rain out last night leads to a day/night doubleheader at Shea Stadium today. Matt Belisle will now be facing Johan Santana in game one. Will Corey Patterson be “hitting” third in Dusty Baker’s lineup like he was last night?

Discuss the game here….

UPDATE: Use this thread for game two, as well….

Any reasonable explanation for why Dunn isn’t in the line-up after 2 days off?

How does Baker justify playing Patterson against a lefty like Santana? Why not run Hairston out there?

comments won’t accept my Mets lineup, but suffice it to say that the only important thing is that Johan Santana is pitching.

Patterson with a leadoff bunt single…..and then gets picked off. Freel had two strikes on him – he wasn’t bunting! Terrible, terrible, TERRIBLE.

Reds base runners are no longer allowed to lead off……

Heat of the moment: Patterson deserves to be fired, and if Krivsky was responsible for signing him for $3 million in the middle of spring training (and he says he wasn’t, but who was?), then he deserved to be fired too.

Patterson’s mistake looming large when it’s followed by a single and a double. Up to Votto with two out.

Would’ve been nice if that would’ve been a run scored in the first. We will not get many chances against Johan.

Oh dear – swinging strike 3 nevertheless gets a run in with the wild pitch. 1-0 NYM.

Occasionally they manage to get on, but I’m getting really tired of all the Reds trying to bunt for hits. Votto? Really?

Edwin’s got it…solo shot. Hope that starts a hot streak.

  • Good job by Edwin. Can the Reds score more or keep the Mets from scoring more? Inquiring minds want to know.

  • It would be nice to see Belisle get ahead in the count occasionally.

  • Well, not a bad inning by Belisle there.

Corey Patterson vs. lefties: .133 average, .321 OPS.

At least Patterson won’t make a base running mistake this inning.

I bet whenever Dusty gets a new baseball video game, he immediately trades for Corey Patterson.

  • Wow, a 321 OPS. That’s unreal.

There is not a greater collection of human beings who have cooler jobs and yet suck so bad at it then sports broadcasters. The good ones are pretty good, but they are made to look legendary by all the other horrible ones. The Mets announcers just commented that Votto doesn’t look too comfortable at first. Then mentioned that he was drafted as a catcher and LAST YEAR was his first year playing first base. Have these guys ever even heard of the interwebs?

Easy to slam Patterson, but meanwhile, Belisle continues to get knocked around. 6-1 NYM after five.

Have they ever seen Votto? He’s looked quite good in the field – no less a cynic than Marty Brennaman has said so.

For that matter, didn’t Votto turn a 3-6-3 doubleplay earlier?

“He does not knuckle under when the tough gets going”, Mets announcer talking about Santana. Thanks guys

sigh. The Reds have collected 1 more hit and 3 less runs thus far. And now teh bullpen isn’t helping.

I had a feeling today was a loss day with Belisle & Arroyo going … 1 down, 1 to go … nice to see the offense continue to hit in back to back games. Time to bring Bailey up and give him his shot. He really doesnt have anything left to prove at AAA and a whole bunch to prove up here. He cant do any worse than what we have been seeing from todays two starters … can he?

Matt Belisle’s line….six runs, five earned, on seven hits in five innings.
Wow, sounds like every game I’ve ever seen Belisle pitch. Please put this guy in the bullpen where he belongs.

A struggling Pelfrey pitching for the Mets. (Though, struggling is relative when the Reds are throwing Belisle and Arroyo at ‘em in the two games today.)

Decent first inning – scored a run, and made Pelfrey work hard (28 pitches). Let’s hope Arroyo finds the homerun-suppressing Shea to his liking.

Wow – who cares about homeruns when he doesn’t even let them hit it. Arroyo strikes out the side 1-2-3 in the first.

Hatteberg doubles him in for a Reds lead!

Keppinger got dissed by some on this site last year for possibly being too good to be true. I think we’ve seen enough of him now to know he’s the real deal.

Games of 9, 6, and 7 runs over the last three. Has the offense awakened? Amazing especially with the contributing play of crap players like Patterson and Hairston.

True story. I was at Shea when I think it was Kurt Stillwell went 5 for 5 against the Mets. Definitely a Reds SS did it when I was there in the mid to late 80s.
