An afternoon affair today at Great American Ballpark. It’s the last game of the homestand, and if that weren’t reason enough to head down to the park, consider that Johnny Cueto is pitching, and you should take every opportunity you can to see that guy pitch.
For the rest of you who are stuck at work or elsewhere, discuss the game here….

Headline at MLB.com today:
“Flamethrower Cueto gives day games a hot start”
Predicting 15 K-ueto’s
Well, I was championing a youth movement this past offseason … perhaps now it the time. Look for trade partners for Dunn, Jr, Hatteburg, & Freel. Demote Coffey. DFA Fogg. Bring up Bray, Bruce, & Bailey. Our Lineup would be:
LF Hairston
2B Keppinger
1B Votto
RF Bruce
3B Encarnacion
2b Phillips
CF Hopper/Patterson
C Ross/Bako/Valentin
Rotation
Harang
Cueto
Volquez
Arroyo
Bailey
Pen
Cordero
Burton
Merker
Affeldt
Lincoln
Bray
Belisle
And for the last two roster spots … find someone … ANYONE who can hit lefties!!!!!
Hairston should not be leading off.
Until he proves he “cant” lead off … who do you prefer? Patterson? … no thanks … Hopper? … Im ok with that when he plays … but you know Dusty is going to play him more often than Hopp. Keppenger? No … his bat is too valuable in the two hole. So unless they go out and trade for a better option … Hairston makes the most sense because he give you professional at bats & is hot right now.
Hairston should not be playing. Jay Bruce should be.
Jay Bruce IS playing.
Did you even look at the lineup? I have Bruce batting 4th playing right field? What am I missing here?
What is wrong with Jay Bruce leading off in Center, a la Hamilton last year? Trading Bruce for Hairston, Hopper, etc., is a huge tradeoff in OPS. I realize he won’t leadoff for the rest of his career, but at Age 21, why not give the kid some ABs?
What I meant to say was JAY BRUCE SHOULD BE STARTING FOR THE REDS. Not the Louisville Bats.
Rookies always hit 7th or 8th until they prove they can produce. Plus Bruce strikes out a fair amount, he is not a leadoff hitter. Brandon Phillips should hit leadoff when Bruce gets called up.
What a stupid lineup…I mean, you’re looking to trade Dunn, Griffey, Hatteberg, and Freel, right? So who did you get for all of them? They’re absent in the above posting, but the return was….? I mean, package those four up together and get B.J. Upton for crying out loud! Get a major-league LF or CF…you’ve traded away 13, 8.5, 3, and 1.8 million, respectively, get a 26.2 million dollar player (or at least someone in the 15 range and a few starters)…play either Phillips or Keppinger at short, leave only one of them at 2b (okay, just messing w/your typo at this point, hehe). You don’t want to just start removing guys from the lineup. At this point, for Dunn, I’d take Carl Crawford or a legit, young CF (Byrnes, Upton, or Sizemore)…obviously, no one will give us that trade, so we’re keeping Dunn and maybe moving Griffey back to Seattle for a few prospects, while possibly using Freel and Hatteberg to get a middle-reliever to replace Weathers (Bray = Mercker) next year.
