Reds vs. Pirates, Edinson Volquez vs. Paul Maholm, PNC Park, 7:05 pm tonight.
Johnny Cueto’s first two starts have been magnificent, and I’ve been anxiously anticipating Volquez’s second start. If nothing else, that storyline gives tonight’s game an element of interest.
Discuss it here….
UPDATE: I had hoped to use this thread to follow Redleg Nation Spotlight Player Matt Klinker’s first start of the 2008 season, as Dayton (A) was to take on Wisconsin. Looks like the game has been rained out, though.

Lineups, first for the good guys:
Hopper CF
Keppinger SS
Junior RF
Phillips 2B
Dunn LF
Encarnacion 3B
Votto 1B
Bako C
Volquez P
Now for the Sluggin’ Buccos:
Morgan CF
Sanchez 2B
McLouth RF
Bay LF
LaRoche 1B
Doumit C
Bautista 3B
Rivas SS
Maholm P
Stellar lineup, no?
“sluggin’ buccos” hahahaha
I’m fully expecting Edison to invent the lightbulb tonight. It’s going to rule. Let’s see if we can’t win another series!!
If you expect to be a good team, you absolutely MUST win series against teams like Pittsburgh.
Rain delay. First pitch is scheduled for 7:25pm.
Is it just me, or has there been a lot of rain so far this year?
I know we are all pleased about Josh Fogg’s good start on Wednesday, but you gotta think Matt Belisle is almost ready. He has been lights out in his minor league rehab stint, including yesterday in Chattanooga (AA).
So Matt Klinker’s debut at Dayton has been postponed. Maybe he’ll pitch tomorrow.
You gonna be there, Bill (if you’re out there tonight)?
If anyone is interested, Gary Majewski is sporting an ERA, after three appearances in Louisville, of 18.90.
Time to get this joker off the 40 man roster.
LOL, after Majik Man’s first appearance in Louisville his era was 9 – he’s more than doubled it!
I missed it. How did Hopper get on base before the double play?
Hopper reached on an error, Griffey hit by a pitch
Lots of good seats still available right behind home plate.
Bases are clogged for EE.
I love Gary Majewski.
Edinson Time!!!
Dunn and EE 1 and 2 in baseball in walks with 12 and 10.
Wow, didn’t realize that, Jared. Once they both get out of these slumps, they are going to be great. But they’re still contributing while slumping. That’s great.
Nice throw by EE.
Volquez’s stuff is electric, but he’s throwing a lot of pitches in the first inning.
Yeah, not enough strikes so far.
Three outs. How many pitches did he throw?
Majewski’s line from yesterday:
ERA IP H ER BB SO
40.50 0.2 4 3 1 1
Yeah, Gary just didn’t get enough innings in spring training…
Another error for Pittsburgh. They’re terrible.
19 pitches for Volquez in the first
Well, crap, Hopper. I thought he was our best bunter?
(I know he probably is…that was a terrible one, though.)
It’s just like the 1990 NLCS!
wow. the rain looks nasty are they really going to get 5 in?
6 pitches, 2 outs in the 2nd.
Hope so, Abner.
If I counted right, that’s 32 pitches through two.
Hopefully we’ll have some runs by then. They’ve been coming late in games.
Yay! We’re back! 2 on and one out in the 6th. Time for some runs.
Sorry, guys. Our web host had an outage. Not our fault!
Things should be fine now…just in time for the rain delay.
just in time for the rain! Why couldn’t the rain wait til we scored!
Without question, Pittsburgh has the most incompetent grounds crew in the league. Did you see them trying to put that tarp on the field?
Agree, JJ.
That will be the end of the line for Volquez, I’m sure. Pretty good five innings, if not as dominant as he’s capable of being.
Pittsburgh can’t be the best at everything.
have they given an estimated time for how long this could last?
Pirates are JUST NOW covering the first base line with the tarp. Incompetent.
It’s going to take a long time to get this field ready to play after the rain stops because this grounds crew doesn’t know what he’s doing.
Hilarious, Brian. Can they be the best at anything?
Yankees up on the BoSox 3-1 in the 7th.
Was it me or did it start pouring rain in buckets everytime the Reds had runners in scoring position?
How in the world can a team leave 20 guys on base and score no runs? It drives me nuts that we score 3 or less, or score like 10 runs when we have it in hand.
