Jon Coutlangus Traded

Kinda sad to see this happen, but Jon Coutlangus has been dealt to the Diamondbacks:

Tonight the Reds acquired from the Diamondbacks minor league OF Daniel Perales in exchange for LHP Jon Coutlangus.

Perales, 23, was selected by Arizona in the 22nd round of the June 2006 first-year player draft…last season at Class A South Bend he hit .282 and led the Diamondbacks organization with 92rbi while ranking among the Midwest League leaders in hits (156, 1st), extra base hits (58, 1st), doubles (32, 5th), runs scored (80, 3rd) and triples (10, 3rd)…he has been assigned to FSL Sarasota.

Coutlangus, 27, was designated for assignment as 1 of 11 roster moves on Opening Day.

Best of luck to the man who inspired a thousand nicknames.

Coutlangus just got caught in a numbers game. Too many lefthanders in the bullpen. Let’s hope we got something good in return.

Not sure what the 7-day DL is about on Perales but besides that, he looks like a cross between Sean Henry and Chris Heisey. Looks seasoned but it all hinges on whether or not he can put enough strength on his frame and keep his speed (and of course whether he can hit a baseball as he moves up).
