Josh Fogg makes his not-so-eagerly-awaited Reds debut tonight against the Phillies and Kyle Kendrick Gametime at Great American Ballpark is 7:10 ET.
I will be interested to see if Josh Fogg can be a league-average pitcher this season, for the first time in his career. A league-average pitcher could have some value to this club. On the other hand, if he is as craptastic as usual, I hope he’s just warming Homer Bailey’s seat for a couple of months. (After Bailey’s performance last night, I want to strangle whomever said he wasn’t coachable. Looks to me like he went down and worked on his pitch-efficiency, just like he was told to do. Great start.)
Discuss the game here!

Bummer. Rain delays start time til about 8pm
Majik Man already has a 9 era in Louisville…SHOCKING!
WLW 700 comes in better for me the later it gets.
Should be an interesting matchup. Fogg and Kendrick are similar types pitchers and the Reds/Phillies’ lineups are similar types of lineups.
What a crummy night to play baseball.
Fogg is going to get pounded I fear.
Right on, Mike – I used to look forward to the west-coast games as a kid, because those late games were the ones I had the best chance of pulling in on the AM dial. 1000 miles away.
Mmmph. Not looking positive – he’s awfully concerned with Rollins on base.
Woof. 3-0 Phillies already.
Ha Bomb!
Ugly first inning for Foghat. Hope the reds offense can get it going early.
Reds got one there, at least. I guess Kendrick and Fogg are similar – they had basically the same first inning, excepting the Burrell homer.
Nice play by Encar.
Utley sends it yonder…
So . . . when can Bailey get back to the majors?
You know the night isn’t going well when you are wishing for Matt Belisle……
Fogg is just not going to work out. Bellisle or Bailey better get ready in the next month.
Because i’m a reds opptimist i let poeple almost convince me that having josh fogg in our rotation was okay this spring.
But it’s not. he’s a terrible pitcher now, and pretty much always has been. what a let down after yesterday.
but hey, the reds are hitting for the first time really. pretty nice to hear that.
Well. We’re swinging the bats a bit better, but still wsting some opportunities.
Josh Fogg out after 4 innings and 6 Runs. Hope Affehlt can give our boys some good innings to get back in this one.
Affeldt looking every bit as quality as Fogg did.
When was the last time the Reds signed a free-agent pitcher, and it worked out well?
I don’t get wlw here in Illinois. Is there anywhere online I can listen to the game (so I don’t have to sit and watch this brutal play by play)
Lots of missed offensive opportunities…Dunn has been horrible tonight thus far. I hope Bailey or Belisle is ready soon, even at his best, Fogg isn’t much better than he was tonight.
Whoa. Is Jerry Narron in the dugout? Dunn out for Freel. Double switched for Burton.
Is Dunn getting in Baker’s doghouse with his offensive struggles?
EdE’s quietly accumulating some walks (5), despite being 2-10. He may be getting his approach together. Plus, being the bridge between Dunn and the two disciplined 1B, they won’t let the wild pitchers off the hook. Hopefully, BP, Hopper, and Patterson can make some improvements in this department but I’m not holding my breath.
We can’t suffer a Valentin injury, especially with his bat going good. Hanigan would be the emergency guy.
Well at least Burton has been filthy tonight….
Bigtime outing for Burton. Now the offense has to get after this bullpen.
We let Manos de Oro have an at-bat. Whenever you allow 1/27th of your outs to be divied out to Juan “golden hands” Castro, you are hurting your chances of victory by just that little bit.
I will be very very excited if Bailey posts a couple more starts of the like down in AAA. The prospects of all three highly-touted prospects in the mix with our 1-2 punch could be electric! Could you envision a starting rotation version of THE NASTY BOYS?!?
I just came back from seeing Leatherheads. Not sure if that was better or worse than watching Fogg and Affeldt tonight. If I say it was close, does that tell you enough about the movie?
hATTE, THE BEST PH is left to rot on the bench. Freel and Hopper instead pinch hit in RBI situations (runner on 3rd with 1 out) and both fail to drive in the run. Hatte is a sure bet to drive in a run and extend the inning in either slot. Dunn yanked in the 6th with the Reds down by 3 even though he may have 2 ABs left in the game and is our best hope at a comeback. The shortsightedness of carrying Castro instead of 3 catchers (just until Ross is at full health) will now hurt us as Bako becomes the every day starter. Ross being played in ST prevented a retroactive DL assignment that could have brough him back already. Not sure what else I can bitch about but I’ll think of something by tomorrow.
I live in Syracuse and was at the game. Not such a great start. Fastball consistently 88-92. Often missed with his curve. Only struck out two. Syracuse hit the ball hard. I’ve been a Reds fan for years and want Homer to succeed. He looked like an average AAA pitcher, not a big time prospect.
