From Canada’s National Post:
Couple of comments by Votto:
“I just felt I was being held back while I was in Louisville,” he said. “It was hard. It was something I had to deal with every day. It drove me crazy.
“When I finally got called up I felt a real relief, I felt like all the frustration I had during the season staying in Louisville was gone and I finally got to play the game I felt I deserved to play.”
snip…
“My expectations are to play every single game,” Votto said. “Whether or not they’re realistic, I don’t know.
“I want to stay in the major leagues from this point on. That’s my goal and that’s what it should be. We’ll see.”
Nothing really new or earthshattering in the article, but it appears that Joey isn’t afraid to say what he thinks.

If Votto felt like he was being held back in 2007, whatever will Bruce think if he starts 2008 in AAA? I for one felt like Votto’s minor-league progression was pretty much fair, not artificially decelerated. I know that not everyone felt the same way, particularly around late July – early August last year. But once Votto did advance, he played every day. Hatteberg might have even gone home early; I don’t think he appeared in a single game for the last four weeks of the year. (And the Reds picked up his option! Crazy world.)
By the way, is that National Post publication sort of the Canadian equivalent of USA Today? Kind of cool, & classy.
Thanks for the link about Votto, I hadn’t realized he was a fellow Canadian!
The National Post was started in the late ’90s as competition for the Globe and Mail, the only national newspaper at the time. It has always been more politically conservative than the Globe, and has never been as popular.
It does have elements of USA Today, in the big headlines and bold use of colour, but it tries to cover things in more depth and offer more analysis. I think the editorial staff would probably not relish the comparison.
And now I’ll go back to lurking.
