Reds and Astronomicals again tonight, and Matt Belisle will be on the mound hoping to help the Redlegs avoid the sweep.
Just because I want to talk about something positive that has come out of this dreadful season, I’m going to link this article in which Josh Hamilton says that he is pleased with the season he’s had.
We’re pleased, too, Josh.
Discuss Josh Hamilton and tonight’s game here.

So far so good for Belisle. Three perfect innings.
Buh-lizzle p to six perfect, now.
C. Trent is keeping track in efficient fashion on his blog.
Ryan Howard broke Dunn’s single-season strikeout record tonight.
Belisle is the new Lohse. Brilliant streaks, but very inconsistent. But Lohse has more sustained solid streaks that Belisle. Belisle drives me nuts.
Well. That went fast. 2-all in the top of the 7th.
actually technically speaking Belisle is one of the Reds most consistent starters
yes, the standard deviation of his performance in his starts shows him even more consistent than Harang and Arroyo.
FLAKE
.30 Lohse
.25 Harang
.24 Arroyo
.22 Bailey
.22 Belisle
.22 Livingston
.21 Shearn
.16 Dumatrait
.09 Milton
Remember, this shows consistently and in Dumatrait and Milton’s cases they were consistently terrible
“One of the Reds most consistent starters” is hardly a compliment to anyone. A prime example of how stats can be very misleading.
one more thing about consistency
I should mention for perspective that only one starter in the NL has been more inconsistent than Lohse and that’s Josh Johnson of Florida who has only started 4 games.
looking at the 74 NL pitchers with at least 100 IP the Reds rank in order of inconsistency.
#1 in the NL Lohse
#19 Harang
#28 Arroyo
#39 Belisle
remember consistency does not make you good. You can be consistently near a mean that is bad.
For example, some of the most consistent starters in the NL this year are Anthony Reyes (stl), Dontrelle Willis (fla), and Brett Tomko (SD). They were all consistently bad
Of course Smoltz, Peavy, and Maddux were also among the most consistent.

Who is more pathetic? The Cubs or the Brewers?
Trick question: The rest of the division is the most pathetic because no one else even managed to challenge those two collapsing teams at the end of the season.
Do we have “parity” in baseball now or is it just widespread mediocrity???
I’ve been trying to pull for the Majek man this year, but he’s either still injured, clueless, not particularly talented or has no confidence. Perhaps all of the above. Terrible. Sorry to be such a negative commenter tonight, but this season has been particularly depressing. Having said that, I know I’ll be missing Reds baseball my the end of November–and they will keeping sucking me in with promises for next year.
Oh, Gary Majewski. You so crazy.
I want to like Majewski, but he makes it so difficult.
Well, the Astros sweep the Reds and the two teams are now tied for fourth place in the crappiest division in baseball.
