Aaron Harang in the finale of this four game set with the Giants. He’ll face someone named Travis Blackley. Blackley hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2004, when he put up a 10+ ERA in six starts for the Mariners. That’s his only major league experience to date.
Hopefully, Harang can pick up his 17th win today. Discuss it here.

Horrible news for Adam Dunn… He’s no longer alone in the record books for most K’s in a season.
Did Howard pass Dunn? If he hasn’t yet, he will by the end of the year unless the Phils get knocked out of it and he sits the last couple games.
But here are some fun/odd facts related to the SO record
2004, the season Dunn set the mark, was arguably Dunn’s best season. 124 Runs Created and an OPS+ of 152. Few Reds in history have had a season like that.
To be exact, 120 Runs Created and OPS+ over 150 has been done 12 times in Reds history
Robinson did it 4 times
Dunn, Foster, Perez, Morgan, Rose, Seymour, Klu, and Babe Herman each did it once.
Of the top 20 strikeout totals in a single season most of the players had VERY good seasons. The few exceptions.
Jose Hernandez in 2002. He had a .300 OBP and 88 OPS+ to go along with his 188 Ks. Arguably one of the worst free swingers every. His 2003 season was even worse.
Even the much maligned Rob Deer had a 113 OPS+ when he struck out 186 times.
and top 5 seasons with at least 175 Ks
OPS+
170 Howard 2006
169 Thome 2001
167 Fielder 1990
152 Dunn 2004
151 Thome 2003
OK Top 6 because I like this HOFer
142 Mike Schmidt 1975
Ryan Howard is an MVP.
Some fans in Cincinnati want to run Adam Dunn out of town.
I’ll never understand this city….
Kepp just hits a 2 run homer in the first. Rude welcome for the young Giant hurler.
I’m starting to think Kepp needs to start at SS next year. His bat will be worth it.
Good start in SF, poor start in SEA.
Double for Edwin. The kid just keeps hitting.
And they show EE standing on second base with a big smile on his face. That’s good to see.
Edwin is hitting .295, and his OPS is now over 800. What more could you want from a 24 year old 3B?
I don’t know why EE isn’t considered by the average fan to be part of the Homer/Votto/Bruce/Phillips/Hamilton youth movement that is going to turn this franchise around, supposedly.
Edwin is making a serious bid to finish the year with a .300 batting average. Unbelievable.
Wow, Dunn almost killed the Giant catcher in that play at the plate.
Jay Bruce.
Homer Bailey.
Joey Votto.
Josh Hamilton.
Edwin Encarnacion.
Johnny Cueto.
Add to Dunn, Harang, Arroyo, Burton, Phillips…we’re not far away from having a very good team.
Harang is reading out a little low on the radar gun, according to the gameday. Does he look alright?
Howard will probably end up with 210+ K’s.
Agreed EE should be considered part of the future because he’s a prospect and young.
But if you include Phillips and Hamilton, which I would also include as the future then I think you need to include Dunn. Dunn is what, 1.5 years older than they are? and MUCH more proven.
So yes, Homer, Votto, Bruce, Phillips, Hamilton…
AND
Dunn, Cueto, and maybe Keppinger
I’m not sold on Cantu yet
Fastball on the outside edge. Fastball on the lower inside corner. Slider way down and in, strike three. Harang is a machine.
Aurilia has killed against Cincinnati this year. Judging from his numbers though, he hasn’t collected many hits against anyone else.
Yeah, Harang looks just fine today.
More props for EE!
Can you remember the last time a Reds 3B put up two seasons in a row with 450 PA and a above average OPS?
well if you can remember, you have a better memory than I do
It was Chris Sabo in 1991 and 1992
and before that
Buddy Bell in 1986-87
Bengals in a battle against Seattle. Seahawks capitalize on Palmer INT.
Cribbs ran a kickoff back 99 yards for Cleveland against Oakland. Why do teams kick to him?
Boo-ya. David Ross above .200 again with a 2-2. 4-0 Reds on his double.
Yikes. That went fast. 4-4.
I hate implosions!
Bounce back, Reds.
Did Hopper just steal second on a pitchout?
Disappointing day when Harang can’t hold the lead.
This Bengal game is wild!
There’s a “Brian Wilson” playing for a California team? That’s pitch-perfect.
Time for Palmer to demonstrate the one minute drive.
I’m starting to think Kepp needs to start at SS next year. His bat will be worth it.
I got no problem is Keppinger starts next season with Gonzalez and his 4M or so salary dealt, but I’d put him at 2B and move Phillips over to SS.
Just as people arent sold on Cantu I am in no way sold on Kep. Does he belong on this team next year? I think he has done enough to warrant that. However he has had only one half of a successful season. How many times have the reds given out big contracts and starting jobs to career half season guys? We are paying David Ross millions of dollars. Has been great behind the plate but anyone who hits below 200 for an entire season is not worth millions of dollars. Maybe my bitterness of another losing season has got the best of me on this one but until Kep puts together a full successful season he is still auditioning in my book. Let us not forget Cantu once put together a 20 some odd homerun season along with 116 RBI’s.
