I gotta admit, I’m as interested in watching Bailey’s return tonight as I have been in a while. I’d like to see the youngster make a couple of strong starts before the season ends.
Discuss it here.

Wow – retires 15 in a row I think, then gives up a 2-out hit and Mackanin brings the hook? Interesting decision. I hope Doug’s last prediction doesn’t come true.
Dunno about Ellisons hit, but Im glad Bill Bray made me unable to tell the future. Bailey looked pretty freaking good tonight on the mound. His curveball was on and he was working at a higher speed than he had been before. Change up was there sometimes, very good outing by Bailey. Hope there are a few more in him just like it this year. Work sucks, which means I have to find out the end of the game when I wake up. Go Reds.
At first glance I’m not that enthused that Bailey only struck out 3 batters, but then I look at the Giants lineup and excepting Klesko, most of them are pretty high-contact guys. A number of those two-strike curveballs that were perfectly located got foul-tipped into the dirt by those guys.
Yeah, Matt Cain probably should have been an All Star this year, but he was something like 3-9 with a 3.30 ERA at the break. Talk about some tough luck.
Maybe “only” 3 K’s, but I think the encouraging stat was only 1 BB, and that was in the first inning. Retiring 15 in a row is a pretty good feat, too, even if it is the Giants.
It was nice to see Homer hit 96 mph on the gun a few time tonight and the curveball did look very good. However, I was a little discouraged that he struggled to hit his spots. Only one walk, yes, but against a group of light hitting players who were aggressively swinging the bats in the hope of making something happen. Homer still has some work to do.

Prediction, 5.1 innings, 5 hits, 2 walks, 6 strikeouts. Bullpen allows a run to his name.
Hopper leads off with a single…
Kepp didn’t help much on that play. Gotta DIVE youngster!!
Come on, score!!!!
There’s 5.1 innings for Bailey, but he’ll keep right on going.
wow…. 80 pitches, 3 hits and they take him out. Didn’t see that one coming. Hopefully Bray doesn’t make me right.

Jinx!
Aurilia killed the Reds the first time around, but not so here. Good thing Bray remembered to cover first base just in time.
Ellison!
Is that his first hit as a Red?
I guess it was his second hit. He was 1-20 before the homer.
3-1 Reds.

Posterity: Final score 4-2. Nice win, good to see an easygoing Weathers outing for a change.
Also, Matt Cain’s record is 7-16!!??!? With an ERA of 3.68?

Everyone has some work to do until they are striking out 27 batters on 81 pitches.
