Junior Griffey injured

Well, he almost made it to the end of the season, and a good season it was. I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t see any more Ken Griffey for the rest of the year.

“The best way I can describe it is it felt like somebody bungee jumped off my right nut,” Griffey said.

    Daaaamn.

That’s about as descriptive of a comment as I need.

Out of the 144 games he played this year, how many were as a starter?

    Reds road the guy hard.

Yeah I wonder if the rest of the at bats Griffey would have gotten on the road to 600 will now be open.

  • Kerm, like you, I hope the at bats Jr. would’ve gotten are now open…..especially the ones next year……..for Jay Bruce. While I commend Jr. for playing 144 games, last nights’ injury was almost comical after you see he’s gonna be alright. Routine single to right, then the sniper got him. Outside of Larry Walker, I can’t think of another outfielder so historically fragile (not soft, there’s a difference). If this isn’t Exhibit A on why you should try and move him in the offseason, then I’ll point to his .214 average in September.

I’d personally like to see one more season out of Griffey, I think he has at least that much production left in him, he’s a Hank Aaron award finalist for god’s sake. You can’t ignore how much he helped this offense this year. When the time comes and Griffey moves on let’s just hope Jay Bruce is ready but I’m not going to be the one to suggest he’s MLB starter ready right now.

Let him finish his contract in Cincinnati but give him a couple days off a week.

  • Agreed Jim. Let him play in Cinci. He’s a first ballot hall of famer who I hope can finish his career as a Red. His homerun chase is one of the few draws the Reds have had lately. I don’t agree with the fragile thing. Stuff happens, and if Jr was that fragile he would not have played over 140 games this year.

I’ll bet Mackanin wishes he’d rested Griffey for a game, instead of playing him all those days in a row because you have to play veterans against the contending teams (even if they’re obviously tired and contributing nil because of it), or whatever nonsense. Oh well, 600 now waits a winter guaranteed.

Griffey looked sluggish that entire Cubs series. I thought he’d hurt his wrist the at bat before he hurt the groin. It just looked like he was wearing down.

I can’t believe all you Griffey haters! Everyone wanted him in 2000, now MOST of you have turned your back for a guy who goes 110% every night! When is the last time he got hurt not busting his butt??? Who are you going to replace Griffey with and get .280/30/90??? Sorry but Jay Bruce is still 2 years away because Cincy milks everyone out now. No Griffey and no Dunn = Montreal Expos in Cincinnati!
