Game Thread: Brewers at Reds — 2007.09.08

I’m driving home from a MAJOR Division 1-A college football game*, so I will be listening to this one on the radio for the first few innings.

Its Aaron Harang vs. Jeff Suppan. Discuss it here.

*Just kidding. It was Virginia vs. Duke. Two of the worst teams I’ve ever seen.

  • Is anyone else starting to get pissed because Hamilton doesn’t start against lefties?

Hey, I was at that game myself, Chad. Are you a good guy or a Dookie?

  • I’m one of the good guys, Dan. Definitely not a Dookie.

  • Do you go to many games, Dan?

    Nobody can stop Joey Jotto.

Except me, by mistyping his name.

    Go Votto! 3-0.

I tuned in just in time. Hopefully this one will be out of reach by the time I depart for the big VT game.

Interesting bit of trivia there – Bruce Froemming, behind home plate tonight, is the oldest man to umpire an MLB game. He’s also 2nd in total number of games umpired. And apparently he’s retiring at the end of this season.

Oof, also Sarasota and Dayton each lost the third game of their three-game playoff series. I think that spells the end of the season for all the Reds’ minor-league affiliates.

Mmmmeh. Fielder makes it 3-2 on his 43rd. Harang has labored the past couple innings and has 91 pitches through 5+.

The Reds haven’t left anyone on base yet. All their baserunners came in the second, and all of them scored on Votto’s homer. Other than that it’s been 3 up, 3 down every inning.

Ah, good – I was hoping I’d jinx them into something. Hopper leads off the 6th with a single. Not even an infield hit, either!

Harang still in there to face the bottom of the order…

…and helped out by a doubleplay ball there. Especially when the next batter gets a hit too. Don’t go any farther, middle of the order is dangerous.

Definitely the slow part of the year for online Reds’ game threads everywhere.

Reds up 3-2 still after a failure to plate a vital insurance run in the 7th; with the game entrusted to the bullpen now after a gutty Harang performance, I hope it’s enough to push his record to 15-4. Get it going, Reds! :!: :!: :!:

  • Just got home. Yeah, slow part of the year.

One of my colleagues is in Baton Rouge, DA. He’s a Tech grad, so I look forward to hearing his report.

  • By the way, Jared Burton really needs to do something about his beard. Not good.

    Go Hokies!

His beard not good? Neither is the performance, lately. Another lead blown for a Reds’ starter. In the end-of-the-year summaries, I look forward to a real accounting of those – what could have Arroyo’s and Harang’s records looked like otherwise?

Not a good start for Tech, either.

This game went to hell fast. 4-3 MIL, final.

I think DA is referring to the Tech-LSU game. It went to hell REALLY fast!

Yeah, Chad, UVa football is not looking too promising after a 24-13 win over the worst team in Division I… and it really should’ve been 24-22 if Dook hadn’t botched all their FG’s.

I have season tickets to UVa football. I am proud to say I have donated enough cash that there are 2 whole rows in the stadium higher up than where I sit!

Do you make it frequently, Chad?

    ReplyReply
  • I’m a season ticket holder as well, Dan. Although I wonder why I bother sometime, especially after watching a game like Saturday’s. Virginia football is in a sad state.
