Down on the Farm

Only two games on the DOTF docket yesterday:

Sarasota 2, Clearwater 0 in Game 1 of a first round best-of-3 series in the Florida State League (Class A+) playoffs.

–24 y/o starting pitcher Ben Jukich was brilliant, tossing 7 no-hit, shutout innings, striking out five and walking two. Yeah, he’s old for the level, but that’s masterful.

–24 y/o 1B Tonys Gutierrez had a couple of hits, and 24 y/o RF Cody Strait had the game-winner, a homer in the 4th inning.

Great Falls 8, Billings 1 (Rookie)

–A miserable game, but 21 year old 3B Angel Cabrera had an outstanding game at the plate, going 4-4 with 3 doubles. On the season, Cabrera is hitting .280/.352/.366.

–The pitching was not good, and our buddy Matt Klinker took the loss.

Dayton (A) begins their playoffs tonight.
