I saw that Wily Mo Peña got traded from Boston to Washington today. I took stock of the Nationals and saw why my brother has taken to calling them “Cincinnati East.” Bowden is the former Reds GM, as we can never forget, and look at the team he’s assembled:
Front office has Bob Boone, Jose Rijo, and Barry Larkin.
Lenny Harris is the hitting coach.
Major-league roster includes Dmitri Young starting at 1b, Felipe Lopez starting at SS, and Kearns starting in RF. Tomorrow it will also have Wily Mo Peña as the starter in LF. D’Angelo Jimenez is on the bench.
In AAA, the franchise has Hector Carrasco, Brandon Claussen, Josh Hall, Chris Michalak, and Brandon Watson.
I’m still very skeptical that Keppinger is anywhere near as good as the broadcasters believe he is, but if he keeps going like this he’s going to convince me.
The fenceline at Miller Park offends me. Its complete lack of order and definition makes it look like somebody drew the plan freehand. With an dull crayon.
Good job by Burton, and the Reds escape the 8th inning and still have a 6-3 lead.
You know, the Rule 5 draft has been a huge bonanza for the Reds this year. It netted Hamilton and Burton, who have both been excellent. Burton struggled initially but has recovered in a big way and now has the lowest ERA in the Reds’ bullpen.

At least that’s what they both are this year.
We Got EZ!
Elizardo Ramirez named the Reds’ starter for tomorrow’s game.
Griffey’s 2 out single to the corner in RF scores Keppinger from 1st
Maybe Phillips could benefit from being told not to swing at first pitches, period.

Wow. 4-bases worth of errors on that play turn a groundout into what Brantley is calling a Little-League inside-the park homer. That’s funny.
6-1 Reds. Looking good.
We no can dunk, but have good fundamentals.
That was an ugly play, and I hadn’t even considered Griffey rounding 3rd until he was halfway home.
..and the Brewers get an out!
And now two more on a goofy play.
The fenceline at Miller Park offends me. Its complete lack of order and definition makes it look like somebody drew the plan freehand. With an dull crayon.
At least the flag pole is outside that fenceline. Arroyo looking great, 76 pitches for 1 run on 6 hits through 7.
Jared, you rule in the realm of good taste.
Now we just need Derrick Turnbow to come in the game so I can shoot back with a reference to Leela the Blernsball pitcher.
Unka dunka dunkity Merrick-sternbow, I think the Reds will have success off of Turnbow.
8th inning is up, but the bullpen isn’t here to ruin things yet. I say leave Arroyo in unless he gives up 5 more home runs.
Make that 3 more, so Arroyo won’t get another loss.
Well, alright.. Burton and Bray tossing in the pen, not, you know, the other guys. I suppose Mackanin can play this one like a normal team would.

CRUSHED!!
Game. 8-3 win, puts the Brewers in 2nd place.
Missed the game, so I especially enjoy reading a recap that has two obscure Futurama references in it. Thanks, Jared.
Cincinnati East (post #7) too funny. You missed Ray Knight. He is a studio analyst for MASN’s coverage of the Nationals.
