Charlotte 5 – Louisville 2

Ryan Hanigan went 1-2 with a 2-run homer. He scored a run and walked twice. He accounted for 50% of the Bats hits.

Matt Belisle picked up the loss by going 6 innings, allowing 4 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits, 2 walks, while striking out 7. Todd Coffey pitched an inning, allowing 2 hits.

Tennessee 5 – Chattanooga 2 (final 12)

I’ll be at this series next weekend when it comes to Tennessee and I can’t wait. Drew Anderson, Luis Bolivar, and Enrique Cruz each had 2 hits in the loss. Adam Rosales only had 1 hit and made it a solo homerun.

Sam Lecure got the start and went 6 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits while striking out 7. Pedro Viola pitched 1 inning, striking out 2. Viola has allowed just 1 run in 9.2 innings pitched in AA.

Dunedin 12 – Sarasota 3

Cody Strait and Chris Valaika each had 2 hits in 4 at-bats. Chris added a run scored and an rbi on the night.

There wasn’t anything on the pitching side worth a positive mention. But the strangest line was Sean Watson who pitched 2 innings, allowing 3 runs on 0 hits, 4 walks, and striking out 2.

Dayton 6 – Great Lakes 1

Justin Turner went 4-5 and bumped his numbers up to .305/.368/.443. Drew Stubbs went 1-3 with a 2-run homer.

Travis Webb improved to 7-5 on the season by pitching 5 innings, scattering 3 hits and 1 run. He walked 1 and struck out 3.

Casper 7 – Billings 6

The Mustangs scored 6 runs in the 5th inning and took a lead midway through the game. Unfortunately, the bullpen surrendered 2 runs in the 9th inning for the loss. Brandon Menchacha went 2-3 with a run scored and an rbi. Todd Frazier had a triple and an rbi and Justin Reed had a double, run scored, and an rbi.

It was a rough night for all 4 Billings pitchers last night. It was especially disappointing for Adam Pointer who gave up the 2 runs in the 9th on a hit and a walk.

The GCL Reds versus the GCL Pirates was postponed.

  • Just throwing this out there for all of the Drew Stubbs haters….

Since July began, Stubbs is sporting a .925 OPS.

I don’t hate Drew Stubbs, I just saw him as a less desirable draftpick than the Reds did. There’s a difficult-to-see line between self-interest (wanting my own opinion to be proven right) and actually rooting against a Reds prospect. I hope I don’t cross that line often.

So good for Stubbs! He’s doing well, and I hope he keeps it going all the way into a Reds uniform.

This may have been covered here already, or elsewhere by doug, but why is Sean Watson relieving again? Is the organization trying to keep his innings total from going too high, or are they reacting to his poor performance since being promoted to Sarasota?

Despite moving to the pitcher-friendly Florida State League, his K-rate has dropped, his homerun rate has shot way up, and his BB-rate has more than doubled.

  • I believe they are trying to just keep his innings down so his arm doesnt fall off. I would bet his arm is already shot in the sense of its not hurt, but he just has nothing left in it this year. He has been a reliever for the last 4 years, so moving to starter and throwing a lot of innings will really catch up to you quickly.
