Belisle sent to Louisville

From the AP:

CINCINNATI (TICKER) — The Cincinnati Reds on Saturday optioned righthander Matt Belisle to Class AAA Louisville of the International League.

Belisle has struggled this season, going 6-8 with a 5.40 ERA in 23 starts. He is just 1-4 in his last 12 starts dating to June 3.

To replace Belisle on the roster, the Reds recalled lefthander Bill Bray from Louisville. He was 1-2 with a 4.26 ERA in 18 relief appearances at Louisville.

From starting rotation to AAA — this team gets stranger and stranger. Yet Gary Majewski’s still on the major league roster.

  • True. Why not put Balissle in the bullpen? He has had some success there in the past, and heaven knows the bullpen needs the help.

And lay off the Majewk Man! He gave up a homer in his one inning, and his ERA went down!

Belisle was hardly showing he deserved to be in the rotation. I think he could have stayed for bullpen duty, however.

They want him to be a starter. The Reds probably sent down to work on things. What is wrong with that?

Belisle is sort of a “tweener”. He doesn’t quite give you enough innings to be relied on as a consistent starter. He’s had some success in the bullpen but he doesn’t seem to be the type of pitcher that puts a hitter away after two strikes the way successful relief pitchers do. He’s got good stuff. He just needs to get it done more consistently. Maybe that why he’s in AAA working on things.
