“I Don’t Know”

I’ve not liked a lot of what Krivsky’s done as Reds GM, and his communication skills leave a lot to be desired, but I’ve pretty much given him the benefit of the doubt. As we’ve discussed a lot, there’s a real value in continuity, and whatever plan Krivsky has, it can’t be implemented in a year and a half. We keep changing GMs halfway through their rebuilding plan, so the rebuilding goes on forever.

But days like today…

Especially when I read this quote from over at John Fay’s blog:

Are the Reds going to add a position player soon?

“I have no idea. This is how we’re going tonight. I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future.”

Reminds me of one of the top three most-quotable movies of all time:

I like that. “I Don’t Know.” That’s nice.

“Mr. Hand, will I pass this class?” Gee, Mr. Spicoli, I don’t know! You know what I’m going to do? I’m going to leave your words right up here for all my classes to enjoy, giving you full credit of course, Mr. Spicoli.

Krivsky’s apparently lost Fay and Rosecrans. McCoy doesn’t blog but his game note is already up. No rips on Krivsky, just a circa-1976 pop culture reference. I don’t know if I’m ready to pull the trigger quite yet, but every day brings me that much closer. There’s just very little reason to believe that Wayne Krivsky actually has a plan. In fact, I think he just admitted that he doesn’t.

  • That’s pretty much what Rosecrans said, too, no plan. He has no idea whether a position player will be added soon? He’s the general manager, for crying out loud! Knowing that stuff is his job!

    From Fay’s blog:

On why Todd Coffey wasn’t optioned: “We going with the 13 right now that we think are the best 13 over whatever length of time it is. I don’t want to talk about individuals. He’s not the only one who’s struggling.”

I think Krivsky should have answered the question instead of obviously dodging it.

Thanks for linking to McCoy’s notes; it was nice to read about how excited Guardado is to return to pitching. I was also pleased to read this:

Ken Griffey Jr. walked by Gary Majewski’s locker, stopped abruptly, then said. “Oh, my god. You almost look human.”

When last seen Majewski’s hair was long, stringy and unruly. Most of his hair was shaved off and his face was whiskerless.

“Just to do something different, try another look,” said Majewski. “I did it right after I got sent down last time.”

Majewski hopes something else is different, too.

“I’ve learned to keep the ball down and put hitters away,” he said. “I didn’t have trouble throwing strikes, but it was location and not putting hitters away. I changed a couple of grips and things worked. Now I just have to apply up here what I learned down there.”

That’s quite a different tune than the old “shove it up their @$$es” routine. He’s changed, man. Now it’s all about the baseball.

    DA. So cynical.

I, for one, am just pleased that I won’t have to look at that mullet and cheesy goatee anymore.

  • And the communication is so good in this organization:

Mackannin on Tuesday’s moves – “I don’t know how to answer that,” Mackanin said when asked why Coffey wasn’t optioned. “There might be something else to it. He hasn’t performed well. We need him to be better. But so much is involved that I’m not privy to.”

But Krivsky says, “Two intelligent minds can agree to disagree on the moves,” he said. “I’m trying to give you guys our reasons. There’s one GM, one manager and one pitching coach. We put all our heads together and tried to come up with what made sense.”

After reading this, only one thing comes to mind, “Who’s on first?”

Did MacKannin tell the media that the team was going to make bullpen changes before he talked to Krivsky about wanting bullpen changes?
