Phil Dumatrait will make his major league debut tonight as the Reds attempt to avoid a sweep at the hands of the mighty Washington Nationals.
I just threw up in my mouth a little bit. (About losing to the Nationals, not about Dumatrait. I have relatively high hopes that Dumatrait can develop into a major league starter.)
Discuss it here.

any guesses on how much we’ll lose by?
i think the score will be 3 to 1
depending on how many innings phil goes.
if the garbage pin takes over after 6 we’re doomed.
phil best throw a perfect game if he wants a win.
wait!
then they would send him down…..
all the good ones go….
Are your comments actually poems, willy? They’re each divided into lines, but I can’t detect any meter or anything. Free verse?

The oficial announcement today from the Reds, Dumatrait up, Ramirez down.
Wait, so what was the point of bringing Ramirez up? I’d rather him starting Saturday than Santos.
The trading deadline combined with hot/hazy/humid weather has obviously scrambled the brains of everyone involved in the management of the Cincinnati Reds franchise. The highly questionable decisions (and non-decisions) from the past week are nearly enough to drown in.
…But at least they didn’t trade for Matt Morris.
I can’t believe Welsh said he liked the deal for Morris last night.
And by the way, what is up with Welsh using all these kids in the Mechanics of the Game segment? Do the real players hate him that much?
After all the talking of Griffey being tired, he just misses an upper deck HR.
What about Lohse getting hurt in the first inning of his first start with the Phillies? Hate to see that.
And then Junior strikes out.
Looks like the Reds get shut down by another LH nobody tonight.
Austin Kearns is hitting .320 against the Reds this season.
Phil Dumatrait gives up a blooper single to Felipe.
Did they refer to him as Mr.Lohse since he was in the process of getting pounded in the 1st?
How about a pitcher’s best friend double play to help out Dumatrait in his first inning in the bigs?
Don’t know if Philly fans have learned about Dr. Kyle and Mr. Lohse yet.
We really have to come up with a nickname for Dumatrait. Typing that name is already getting tiresome.
Dumatrait certainly works slow.
Ball four. This is looking like a Homer Bailey start.
I like how the Nationals guys call him “Ryan” Dumatrait.
I love this rotation of Livingston, Dumatrait, and VIctor Santos. What a year!
We may not have to worry about spelling his name if he doesn’t get his act together quick.
Dumatrait gets his first out in the bigs…because the Nats 3B coach is an idiot and gets Lopez thrown out at the plate.
At least Freel’s defense hasn’t suffered. Indeed, it seems to have kicked up a notch.
Mark Berry coaches 3B for Washington, too?
Okay, four straight batters reach base to start the game. This is positively Saarloosesque.
Did anyone see the movement on that throw by Freel? Let him pitch.
Oh no. Here comes Kearns.
Only one ball has been hit hard off Dumatrait…not that that is any consolation.
Washington might be a .500 club if the roster wasn’t filled with fat slobs. Belliard midsection was flopping all over the place as he raced (?) to the plate.
I don’t know how he got out of that one without giving up more than one run. Wow.
Hope the Reds can take advantage of the fact that the Nationals suck.
And Belliard is thinner than at least two Nats: Ray King and Dmitri Young are even fatter.
-Jimmy-
They need to sign Jimmy Anderson…that disgusting fatbody.
Since the Nationals are wearing the throw-back caps, they should have dug up Walter Johnson to pitch.
Then again, he’d probably shut out the Reds.
I’ve always thought that Dumatrait might be one of the “lucky” pitchers, who wins despite mediocre performances. Sort of the Bizarro-Gary Nolan.
Nice rip by Dunn.
Dunner rips one, and the game is tied.
The most underappreciated player in the big leagues.
Dunn crushes one!
Hard hit single by Encarnacion. I keep hoping he’ll get on a tear.
Dunn must have corked the bat to get it out of this place.
Ba-roooo! 1-all.
Too bad no one can get on base in front of him.
Good to see Gonzalez back!
Wow, Gonzo puts the Reds up 3-1 with a homer. Bet the Nats are kicking themselves for not scoring more last inning.
Go Alex! Just as Thom is expressing amazement that he can concentrate at all this year.
So Dumatrait is no Bobby Livingston up there at the plate.
Let’s see what he can do now that the first-inning jitters are out of the way.
That was pretty selfish of Dunn to hit that homer without anyone on base.
Dumatrait better in the second. Issues a walk but nothing else. Reds right back in there to try and increase the lead for him.
Nats move into their new park next season and they broke ground on their AAA team’s new park today in Columbus.
How many pitches has Dumatrait thrown.
41 plus
Mr. D is going to be hitting the showers soon if he doesn’t get his act together.
With one out in the third now, Dumatrait has thrown 59 pitches.
Is George serious when he says parents come to Krumchek asking for Tommy John surgery for their perfectly healthy kids?
MASN is the official cable network of the John Riggins Show.
There is something wrong with referring to the cookie cutter stadiums as “old style ball parks.”
Amen to that, Jim. After next season, I think I read that the Twins’ MetroDome will be something like the fourth-oldest park left. Just amazing.
Actually the fifth-oldest I think, behind Dodger Stadium, Kaufmann Stadium, and of course Fenway Park and Wrigley Field.
Is Shea biting the dust after next season?
You forgot Yankee Stadium though I can’t blame one for that.
Dumatrait struggles and exits. F’ing Belliard kills the Reds too.
Yankee Stadium and Shea are both being replaced. I thought 2008 was the last season for both, but I’ll check that.
Also McAfee (aka Oakland) Coliseum open in 1966.
The New Yankee Stadium: April 2009 opening. Old Yankee Stadium gets the All-Star Game next year because Bud Selig writes the rules.
-Y-city-
George is serious. I’ve heard of it a few times.
Correct about Yankee Stadium III. I never knew construction had begun.
Was that closeup of Dumatrait in the dugout close enough? I could have counted his eyelashes.
My god. The new Yankee Stadium complex is slated to cost $1.2 billion.
Paris HIlton news:
She is planning her own shoe line.
Her mansion is on sale for $4 million.
Paris-related news:
Her friend, Nicole Richie has decided to stay at the same jail as Paris.
Santos is in the game? I thought he was starting on Saturday.
Most of that money is being put up by the Yankees. I assume they are going to own this stadium.
Just as shocking is that they spent $160 million to renovate it into one of the ugliest stadiums in MLB.
Maybe Ramirez is coming back up.
Yes, Santos is in the game. Management’s brains continue to be scrambled. Maybe Mike Stanton will get a start.
In the offseason I thought Santos was going to end up being a good pickup.
Ugh
Ramirez has to wait 10 days to be recalled unless someone goes on the DL . . . . perhaps a convenient injury to Burton again?
The Nookster! Hits the ball in the air! Making the out! Go, Nookaroni!
How about a convenient trip to the DL by Santos?
Crappy throw by Gonzo there screws up the double play. He’s really been pretty bad on defense this year, but I don’t have a problem cutting him some slack, given what he’s been going through at home.
Freel feeling a little of the ol’ intestinal flu?
I don’t think I can take much more of this excitement.
Norris Hopper hurt, limps to dugout after Phillips grounds into another doubleplay to eliminate any semblance of a scoring threat.
What a crappy series.
In case anyone is still around, the Billings Mustangs are being broadcast on MiLB.com gameday audio tonight. The radio broadcasts are free for the minors, just have to register to get a username and password.
Spotlight Player Matt Klinker is the scheduled Billings reliever tonight.
called it….
except i expected the bullpen to give it up…
not phil.
he’ll be a good pitcher though.
lol
and sorry devilsadvocate.
its just a habit of mine
