Spotlight Player Update: Back to .500
Redleg Nation,
Sorry for the hiatus, but I’m back. We rolled off five straight wins last week, and although I am definitely not very superstitious, I did not want to mess with a streak. After a four-game sweep of Ogden at Cobb Field (which gave us five in-a-row), we lost the first game of our 7-game road trip against Orem.
A well pitched game tonight by Del Rosario and Valiquette helped the Mustangs even the series, gave us our 7th win in 9 games, and got us back to .500. We play two more here before heading to Ogden for a three-game set. Both cities are near Salt Lake City. Our hotel for the Orem series is located across the street from Brigham Young University. The university and ballpark are both well presented in front of a beautiful backdrop of several colossal mountains (check out the photos I hope I attached successfully).
The pitching rotation has had some shake-ups (new guys coming in, one guy leaving for a birth, etc.) so instead of throwing yesterday, I will be throwing behind our starter tomorrow. My last outing went fairly well, one earned through four innings. Although the run did come on an opposite-field blast off the left-center field scoreboard at Cobb. Just like the previous outings, my two-seam fastball and change up got me by, with my curve ball out to lunch. If I can develop a consistent curve ball, I am confident my ground ball and strikeout numbers will greatly improve.
From the road,
Matt K.

Thanks for the update Matt. Wow, that is an awesome backdrop for the ballfield!
Go get ‘em tomorrow.

That is dazzling, especially for someone from the midwest, I bet. Makes you really feel the “Pioneer” in Pioneer League. Thanks as always, Colonel. Are you having fun?

Baseball and mountains - I think that’s heaven, isn’t it?

We are now in Ogden, staying at the haunted Ben Lomond Hotel (google it), and it is just as beautiful. Scott Carroll (3rd round, 2007) went his expected two innings and threw very impressively. Joseph Kerbs was also dominating on the hill. Two more bombs by the Bash Brothers, Waring and Frazier.
