I noticed that about Bobby when he pitched against (i’m pretty sure it was) the Rockies. He definitely has a nice left handed stroke. I was surprised they sent him back down to AAA after that performance anyways.
Why would the Reds want to do that they carry 3 Catchers just for that reason
As for shipping out Livingstone. Bobby has to stay and Chad Moeller should be DFA’d again and for the final time to bring back Homer after his next SCH start for Louisville which should be soon.
While Bobby gives up his share of hits (like a poor man’s Mark Buerhle), his low walk rates in the minors offset them. Kid’s got a nice cutter and an excellent change. Pair that with a strong competitive streak, and you have a solid back of the rotation guy. A classic bend but don’t break kind of pitcher. Give him a chance.
I think he has earned the right to stick around for a little while. I cannot say just how impressed I was with his bunt hit. He laid that down flawlessly. He ran on the right counts and executed a good hook slide as well as a nice one of the head first variety. Kinda scary to see your starting pitcher doing some of those things, but he had to get his TV time in a Reds uni while he could. All of this seems to point to “doing the little things” correctly and “playing the game the right way” and is indicitive of being a “baseball guy”. If all these platitudes spouted by Wayne/Pete have any truth to them at all, Bobby should be sticking around for a little while. Heck, he’s worth keeping around just to lay down bunts, pinch run and eat up a few innings now and then. As long as Farney stays away from him he can stick around.
Would the team be smart enough to pinch hit him if the need arose?
I think that’s a good possibility. After all, Mackanin did let him hit in the bottom of the 5th, but he didn’t go out for the Top of the 6th, being replaced by Saarloos.
Saarloos looked brutal. His only responsibility with a huge lead was to throw strikes, and he could barely manage that while topping out at 85. DTMFA. ‘Gas Can’ Gosling didn’t help matters either w/ the walks, but his AAA numbers indicate he has decent control.

Maybe this will earn him a stay? Apparently Homer isn’t ready, or is injured.

A couple of Livingston’s hits were from pure hustle. That’s something this team has been lacking all year.
