Encarnacion Back

Josh Hamilton’s been put on the 15-day DL, and Edwin Encarnacion has been recalled from Louisville.  (Hat tip to Jeff at MVN).

Glad that’s solved, and for now, I’ll ignore the chance that Narron will do something goofy (like bench EE for Freel) when Hamilton comes back (or when EE throws one away).  Of course, it completely conflicts with the comments Narron made as recently as Sunday.  I guess the lack of offensive sock was too evident to miss.

  • Well, as long as it means we have EE in the lineup and not Hopper, I’ll be satisfied… Hamilton, Dunn, Griffey in the OF, EE, Phillips, Gonzo, Hatte/Conine in the infield… That’s about as good as the Reds can be right now (once Hamilton is back anyhow)…

No more starting Castro and Hopper!

I’m guessing that EE will be back tonight since he’s only at Louisville. Any knowledge about whether he’s going to start?

    Haven’t seen lineups yet.

I’m actually turning into a Hopper fan. I don’t want him to start more than once a week, but he’s pretty darn handy. Good for him.

EE was playing in Columbus today – at least the Bats were in Columbus, I assume he wasn’t in the lineup and should be ready to go tonight in Cincy. Bet Freel gets the start at 3B anyway.

  • EE was not in the lineup today for the Bats.

And one of the AA pitchers we had mentioned, Bumatay, was promoted, he got roughed up today.

Hopefully that means Edwin got advance notice and is getting suited up tonight in Cincinnati.

Also from Columbus, Homer Bailey got the start and pitched well – 5.2 innings, 1 hit, 2 walks, 7 K’s. I haven’t been looking at his pitchcounts relative to his innings to get an idea of efficiency (hurrah for AAA boxscores with more data), but today it was 92 pitches to almost get through 6 innings, despite facing just 21 batters.

Guess I was right, but in the worng way. I hoped Encarnacion’s promotion meant no more A-Gon in the 5-hole. Well, he’s up to the #2 spot in the batting order for tonight’s game.

Maybe this is why EE was pulled in the 6th yesterday?

finally a start from bailey with more than a few k’s. if he can keep that up for a month or so, i’ll start clamoring for him to get called up, now that our rotation has three guys with mid 4+ ERAs and eric milton.

that said, the one run scored off of him was unearned because he had a two error play in the game, so he might need some more pfp.
