22 year-old, left fielder, Danny Dorn (Reds #32 – 2006) may be heating up. The Cal State Fullerton grad went 3 for 5 with 2B, HR, and 3 RBI. Dorn made the jump from Billings to Sarasota is now hitting over .300 in his last 10 games.
21 year-old Sean Watson (Reds #2 – 2006) pitched 5.2 innings giving up just 3 H, 2 BB, and an ER. Watson, who now has a 2.09 ERA, struck out 9. Watson has 65 Ks, 40 H, and 7 BB in 48.2 IP.

20 year-old, center fielder, Efrain Contreras went 1 for 3, but recorded 2 BB. He is hitting .357/.526/.714 with 2 2B, HR, and 4 BB in 17 PAs.

I’d say Dorn is heating up….322/.397/.644 in May.
Question…do the VSL kids ever get moved up during the season to the GCL or Billings?
If this is right, looks like the Bats played a double header (which would explain the 7 inning game.) Boxscore says the first game included two CG 1-hitters by the Bats Steve Kelly and Toldeo’s Jon Connolly. The only Bats hit was a single by EdE.
So now we’ve got 3 AA relievers to harp on? Medlock, Guevara, and now Pelland if he keep striking everybody out.
Baseball America points out today that Watson has yet to exceed 6 innings in a start, is this a concern?
No.
Looking at the Dayton Dragon roster online, MILB.com has last 10 game log. Gonazalez has gone 6.1IP and Smith has gone 7IP just once each.
Looking at Sarasota, last 10 starts per pitcher: Cueto hasn’t done it. Gardner must have done it at least once because he has 43.2 IP in 7 starts.
Did BA think it was a concern?
Its not a concern to me Bill. He is a converted reliever. I would be more worried if he were consistantly going deep into games. He needs to stretch his arm out and I am not sure doing so in the first 2 months of the season is the best idea, and I would imagine the Reds probably see that the same way.
