Reds Heading Further South

That isn’t exactly the headline you want to see in the Enquirer in mid-May, is it? Well, the current Reds aren’t exactly the team I wanted to see in mid-May. This excerpt from Kevin Kelly’s article pretty much sums up this team:

Griffey put the Reds in front Sunday with a three-run home run in the fourth inning. A string of hits and more bullpen blundering took it away as the Dodgers rallied to complete a three-game sweep and their ninth consecutive win against Cincinnati.

The Reds are reeling.

They have lost 10 of their past 12 games and occupy the National League Central cellar. They trail the first place Brewers by 10 1/2 games with six games remaining on this 10-day road trip to Los Angeles, San Diego and Cleveland.

Sigh…. I’m really battling to stay optimistic about this season, since it is still early. But, goodness, that is getting to be a difficult task.

  • One obvious thing, one not so much. The bullpen is the source of most of our woes. And Jerry Narron is not the kind of manager who can motivate his troops, pull them out of the slump. He’s right down there with them.
