DOTF – Keppinger, Mallett, Bruce, Rosales, Stubbs, Francisco, Smith

Louisville 5, Ottawa 2

27 year-old Jeff Keppinger (Pirates #4 – 2001) went 1 for 4 with a 2B and a R. In 37 PAs at Louisville is hitting .382/.421/.441

Huntsville 2, Chattanooga 1

25 year old Justin Mallett (does anybody know how his last name is pronounced?) (Reds undrafted FA – 2003) started his first game of the year, throwing 6 IP giving up 4 H, 2 ER, and 3 BB while striking out 9. He has a 3.00 ERA with 14 H, 8 BB, and 26 Ks in 21 IP. This man should remain a starter!!

Sarasota 8, Clearwater 2

20 year-old Jay FREAKIN’ Bruce (Reds #1 – 2005) went 2 for 4 with 2 HR and 3 RBI. He is now hitting .333/.377/.610

23 year-old Adam Rosales (Reds #12 – 2005) went 1 for 3 with a HR. He is now hitting .300/.414/.522

Dayton 10, Wisconsin 1

21 year-old Drew Stubbs (Reds #1 – 2006) went 1 for 3 with 3 R and 2 BB. Stubbs is hitting .264/.330/.356

19 year-old Juan Francisco went 1 for 5, but the one with a was a grand slam. He is hitting .287/.316/.553. He has 6 HR and 20 RBI. 6 HR leads the MWL, and 20 RBI puts him 2nd.

21 year-old Jordan Smith (Reds #6 – 2006) pitched another gem going 6 innings giving up just a H, and a BB, while recording 7 Ks. He has 2.96 ERA with 18 H, 6 BB, and 24 Ks in 24.1 IP…..NICE.

Justin Mallett – is there a reason it wouldn’t be pronounced just the way it looks? Let’s nickname him Hammer. Huntsville is a poor-hitting team, by the way…3 guys with OPS over .870, 3 more in the .610-.680 range, and the other 7 players with at least 30 AB are .544 and below. Ouch.

Mallett’s one of the few players that has received a 50-game suspension for violation of the MiLB drug policy, last April. Even more notable, it was not for a performance-enhancing drug – it was “an unspecified drug of abuse.”

  • Bruce and Rosales could be in Chattanooga by July. And Drew Stubbs, while not yet a candidate to move up, is looking much better.

  • Before yesterday, Stubbs was 1 for his last 22…and he was only 1-3 yesterday. He\’s been horrible for about the last 2 weeks.

And I don\’t think Rosales gets promoted until he can play something besides DH and 1B, but I might be wrong. Gutierrez isn\’t doing anything at 1B in Chattanooga.

Remind me again why we took Stubbs instead of Lincecum?
