Anyone notice the numbers Brendan Harris is putting up for the ‘Rays? I noticed last week as I was putting together my weekly fantasy lineup (yep, I’m one of those guys…not real serious, and never for money, but it is still an enjoyable diversion for me). Wasn’t this guy supposed to be a key component in “the trade”? Well, he is…but for Tampa Bay.
Krivsky has made some fantastic moves, to be fair — the Hamilton pickup could be a career move for him — but just as often he makes decisions that I just don’t get.
Strikes me that he overvalues veterans and undervalues OBP.

I was just about to make this very comment, about Brendan Harris!
Small sample warnings, of course… but in 33 AB Harris is batting .364/.417/.606 for Tampa Bay… and in 21 AB’s Castro is batting .095/.174/.143 for us.
.095??
Castro career (MLB) – .231/.271/.338
Castro career (minors) – .276/.329/.386
Harris career (MLB) – .245/.308/.406
Harris career (minors) – .295/.363/.469
Harris is 26, Castro is 34.
Harris is cheaper.
I assume Castro is a better fielder… but how could he possibly be so much better in the field that it could make up for the difference at the plate???
Think what a kickass bench we’d have with both Freel and Harris there as the supersub types.
Also… Jerry Gil?? Krivsky also picked Gil over Harris.
Harris career (minors) – .295/.363/.469
Gil career (minors) – .250/.276/.397
Is this choice justifiable at all?
(To be fair, Gil is 24 and Harris is 26, and Gil can play some OF and apparently has a rocket arm. Still… bad bad choice IMHO.)

“The Trade” would not look as horrible with those numbers on our bench, that’s for sure.
