Norfolk 2, Louisville 1

24 year-old Bobby Livingston (Mariners #4 – 2001) pitched another great game. Livingston threw 7 innings giving up just 4 H, 2 ER, and 0 BB while striking out 4.

Chattanooga 6, Carolina 3

23 year-old RF, Cody Strait (Reds #12 – 2004) went 2 for 5 with a 2B and an RBI. Strait, from Beaumont, TX, is hitting just .234/.300/.422.

24 year-old Calvin Medlock (Reds #39 – 2002) tossed two more scoreless innings. He now has 9.2 consecutive scoreless innings. He has a 1.69 ERA with 17 Ks, 1 BB, and 7 H in 10.2 IP.

22 year-old James Avery (Reds #5 – 2005) bounced back nicely from his last terrible start, going 6 IP giving up 3 H, a BB and 2 ER while striking out 5. He has a 4.22 ERA with 16 K, 4 BB, and 21 H in 21.1 IP.

Sarasota DNP; the FSL doesn’t play on Sunday.

Dayton 2, Burlington 0

22 year-old center fielder Drew Stubbs (Reds #1 – 2006) went 2 for 4 with a 2-run HR. Last years #1 pick is now hitting .357/.410/.500. Last year at Billings, Stubbs hit .252/.368/.400.

21 year-old starting pitcher Daryl Thompson (Expos #8 – 2003) pitched his 3rd straight gem. Thompson, who we obtained for just Ryan Wagner, Austin Kearns and Felipe Lopez, now has a 0.53 ERA, with 13 K, 1 BB, and 10 H in 17 IP. You have to wonder, if the rest of the trade keeps looking as bad as it does, whether Krivsky will want to move Thompson as quickly as possible.

  • I was at the Dragons game yesterday and Thompson was impressive. But I thought he had a very “funky” motion…also Chris Heisey had two nice grabs in LF. Stubbs has 3 errors already this season, but he seems to catch EVERYTHING in CF and makes it look easy. He just glides…

  • Bill,
Any idea how hard Thompson was throwing? That is one thing I havent heard about him since he came back from surgery. Also, not sure if you saw it but I responded on the last DOTF thread to the Milton Loo question if you didn’t see it.

We need a real reliever. Not another project, a proven guy that can pitch well now. We’ve got outfielders and infielders to spare. I hate to say it, but if this keeps up, someone’s got to go. I say give it some more time to come around.

  • The radar gun wasn’t working, I don’t think. But he seemed to be throwing hard to me…that Rojas kid throws HARD.

  • From todays DDN

Coming off the injury, one concern was whether Thompson would regain the hop on his fastball. Radar-gun readings this season in the low 90-mph range apparently have answered that question to the Reds’ satisfaction.

Probably should have just checked before I asked lol.
