Wow. Jay Bruce is only 20. That’s amazing to me every time I think about it. He’s a star waiting to happen.

What position is he playing? Is he still in CF? I’m told he won’t be a CF in the majors.

Can you imagine, three years from now, an outfield of Bruce, Josh Hamilton (if he pans out), and Adam Dunn? Incredible.

Now, whether Dunn will be here then is questionable.

Dickerson is the CF in Chattanooga he is only 25 and hitting, Bruce is the CF in Sarasota and he is hitting, Stubbs is the CF in Dayton and he is hitting.

    Nice problem to have.

None of them for power BTW.

  • Bruce hit for power last year and the way the ball takes off his bat, I think he’ll hit for power.

Is there a typo somewhere in Bruce’s line? I can’t figure out how he could have hit a double and a triple in this game alone, and have a slugging percentage lower than his batting average. Ah, MiLB says his slugging is .556.

What is the future of Aaron Herr?

Dickerson may be a nice fourth OF in the bigs, but I can’t see him being much more than that. If you disagree, Matt, I’d be interested to hear why.

Bruce is a stud. But I keep hearing he can’t play CF in the bigs, and that he’ll be moved to a corner position. He’s going to hit well enough to play a corner position, just wondering if that’s actually going to be the plan.

Stubbs is a complete wild card. He could end up being an incredible defensive CF, and his hitting ceiling is fairly high. Even if he doesn’t reach that ceiling, he could be a decent major league center fielder.

I agree, nice problem to have.

If I were betting, I would bet that 4th OF is Chris Dickerson\’s ceiling. And to be honest he hasn\’t been on my radar at all. Mainly because 24 year olds at Sarasota that aren\’t pounding the ball just don\’t catch my attention.

But since he has started out hot I have re-looked at him, and there are some signs of life.

He needs to break out this year, but if you look at his numbers he has fantastic walk rates all through the Minors and in College, his OBP has been .100 points over his batting average every year, but one. I know its a stretch, but that alteast means he understands the strike zone.

The last two years his steal rate has been great…19 of 22 in 2005, and 21 of 27 in 2006.

Again there is MUCH MUCH more to be excited about in our system right now, but I am not writing Dickerson off just yet.

    Dickerson’s a muscular dude, isn’t he?

  • Aaron Herr did not have the RBI in the Bats win. He had a pinch hit double to break up the no hitter, then after a Godwin ground out Bubba Crosby had a line drive single that score Herr from third.

Bruce is actually playing RF in Sarasota with Szymanski playing CF. They split time in CF/RF last year in Dayton but so far through 4 games, its been Szymanski in CF.
