Homer Bailey looks set to win his AAA debut with the Louisville Bats. He left after five and a third innings, and the Bats are up 13 -1 over Toledo. It’s now in the top of the eighth as I write this post. Joey Votto slugged a grand slam homer in the Bats 10-run third inning. Homer put up the following pitching line:
Louisville IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA Bailey, H 5.1 1 1 1 3 4 1 1.69
Bailey was yanked in the fifth with one out after walking a batter on four pitches. He threw 83 pitches, 42 for strikes. I’m wondering if he was on an eighty-pitch limit for the game. The only run he gave up was a fourth-inning solo home run to Timo Perez.
Sounds like he has a bit more work to do on command, but a pretty good AAA debut. If he can string up another four or five of these, he’ll be ready to join the Reds rotation.

Nice outing, and certainly gives Reds fans some hope that he can contribute on the big league level before this season is over.
Votto also continues to mash, which is great. Scott Hatteberg should be getting nervous.
I’m listening now through milb.com, and Brian Shackelford is stinking it up out of the pen. Either way, looks like Bailey is going to be 1-0.
Brad Salmon is pitching now. I wouldn’t mind seeing him in Cincinnati’s bullpen sometime. What’s sad is that Majewski will be brought up before Salmon.
Game over. 13-3 win for the Bats. Homer is 1-0 in AAA.
After a somewhat shaky spring it’s good to see Homer back to limiting hits again. Now keep the walks down and he’s in Cincy before July
It will be a season full of changes in the Reds staff as pitchers come off the DL, go on the DL, get traded, and as Bailey gets his opportunity. Can Johnny Cueto overcome a 5′ 10″ frame and climb the ladder?
