Game’s on MLB.tv, there will be audio available fairly widely, and the game is against the hated Yankees, so I thought it would be a good time for a game thread. Discuss it all here!

Livingston has given up a few hits and needed Alex Rodriguez to run through a stop sign and get thrown out, but is making some really good pitches and looks pretty good. Three shutout innings.
Livingston was fairly impressive… The Yankees line-up isn’t full of scrubs tonight, and he did alright. Of course, it didn’t hurt Livingston any that A-rod tried to be a hero and got gunned out at home.
I was just about to say, why is Conine still in there…and Jerry Gil pinch-runs for him. 2-3 with a couple opposite-field singles on the night, I think.
Personally, I’d rather have Votto playing every day at AAA than having to platoon with Hatty AND Conine. I don’t think they should call him up until Narron agrees to give him substantial playing time. I don’t want him to get the EdE treatment.
I agree with that Dave. What I was saying was that Votto should be the starter in the bigs at some point this year. I can’t imagine he’ll put up numbers any worse than what we can reasonably expect out of Hatteberg.
I really want to win this game because one of my old law school roommates is a New Yorker and a big Yankees fan. Every year, the Reds beat them in spring training and I send him the link.
Well, my wife just made me turn on a movie (Flags of our Fathers), so I’m watching the movie out of one eye, and the game (on my laptop) with the other eye.

It’s gonna be hard to watch this game from my office, but dag nabbit, I’m gonna try.
Hard to watch this with the Yankee announces (and the constant Roger Clemens shots)… But still, it’s the Reds and it’s baseball!
The boys are looking fairly good so far. I almost screamed for joy when Hopper gunned down ARod at the plate. Stupid ARod.
And the Yankee announcers aren’t great, but is anything worse than George Grande?
Actually, I like Al Leiter quite a bit. (As an announcer. Of course I hate him as a pitcher, because of what he did in game #163 in ‘99…)
I think it’s more about them favoring the Yanks that bugs me, but that just comes with the territory. But I agree, Al Leiter isn’t too shabby.

I’m doing a double-take looking at Hamilton. Dude looks just like Paul O’Neill standing in at the plate.

Wow – Roger Clemens is the “special guest”…who’da thunk?
I was just about to say, why is Conine still in there…and Jerry Gil pinch-runs for him. 2-3 with a couple opposite-field singles on the night, I think.
Norris Hooper, Paul Janice, Ben Gil – who are these guys? Oh wait, it’s just the Yankees announcer mangling names.
They don’t do extra innings in preseason games, do they?
I’m watching on the YES network right now. Even with Yankees announcers and AAA players, it’s baseball!
Very nice.
I hope they do, Dave!
Seriously, though, I doubt it. The Reds only brought a few pitchers. They may play until one team exhausts their supply of pitchers, possibly.
Yanks announcers like Bubba Crosby.
Nice ovation from the Yankees fans, too, for ole Bubba.
Did that Yankees announcer just say that the Reds train in Plant City?
Man, they’re WAY behind the times, aren’t they?
Joey Votto HR!!!!! 1-0 Reds!
I like Joey Votto.
Homer in the 8th to put the Reds up. Nice looking lefty swing. The kid’s going to be alright.
Go Joey Votto! 1-0 on the 8th inning solo shot.
I’m a Scott Hatteberg fan. He really did well last year, he seems like a good guy and a good teammate.
But Joey Votto needs to be in the major leagues this year; if not on Opening Day, at some point.
Did they really say the Reds train in Plant City?
Personally, I’d rather have Votto playing every day at AAA than having to platoon with Hatty AND Conine. I don’t think they should call him up until Narron agrees to give him substantial playing time. I don’t want him to get the EdE treatment.
Weathers and Elizardo both had a lot more movement on their pitches than I remember seeing last year. And Weathers looked quite fit.
I agree with that Dave. What I was saying was that Votto should be the starter in the bigs at some point this year. I can’t imagine he’ll put up numbers any worse than what we can reasonably expect out of Hatteberg.
Really, DA? I didn’t watch Weathers pitch because, well, life’s too short. He’s my nemesis. I turned the channel.
I agree about Elizardo. You can’t tell much about spring training games, but he was throwing free and easy, and there was plenty of movement.
We might as well go ahead and concede that the Reds are unstoppable.
I agree, Chad. Here’s to hoping that both Homer and Joey are starters after the All Star Break.
Anyone else pick up Baseball Prospectus 2007 yet? I just got mine today. Not impressed with a lot of the player analysis this year . . .
I ordered it, but I haven’t received it yet.
Oh no. The bullpen is screwing one up again!!!
Was that Dane Sardhina who just tied the game up?
Damn, Yanks tie it up off EZ
The graphic on YES said “Bronson Sardhina”
Well, Elizardo’s not a closer. Eh.
He’s not a closer, but he should know better than to throw meatballs over the plate.
Lucky break for the Reds. Ground rule double that would have scored the game winning run if it hadn’t bounced over the fence.
Lizard is getting ripped right now.
Reds catch a HUGE break on a ground rule double. Runners on 2nd and 3rd, 2 outs.
CMON EZ!
EZ’s doing all he can to lose this one :-/ Nice stop by our 5th string (maybe) catcher.
HBP. Bases loaded.
You gotta be kidding me.
Lizard plunks Kevin Thompson to load em up.
Hit batter – bases loaded.
Even though it’s only spring training, I see our “bullpen” is in mid-season form
Ok, Elizardo. Homeboy hasn’t played above Single A. Strike this sucker out!
I really want to win this game because one of my old law school roommates is a New Yorker and a big Yankees fan. Every year, the Reds beat them in spring training and I send him the link.
I’m a Reds fan, I take my fun where I can get it.
Hometown umps. Looked strike-ish to me.
Re Chad: I live in upstate PA, it’s ALL yankee fans here… I could use this win too (even if it is only spring training)
KKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
STRIKE THREE!
I understand, CeeKeR.
0-2 count…fills it up 3-2, and then strike 3 looking. Not textbook, but it worked this time
Yikes. That’s pinpoint control on that called strike 3 – and when it was needed most.
Leadoff man aboard.
Is everyone else watching the game, too? Should I give the play by play a rest?
Well, my wife just made me turn on a movie (Flags of our Fathers), so I’m watching the movie out of one eye, and the game (on my laptop) with the other eye.
I’m typing blind now.
Keep the play by play coming, Dave. In case I miss something.
I’ve got it on, but sometimes people like to look back through the archive to get a “feel” for the game, so the play by play helps…
Lol. ok. Failed bunt for out one, then Bubba hits into a fieders choice. Two outs and Joey “My Main Man” Votto at bat.
Votto flies out.
This MLB.tv feed is lousy tonight. I was watching on YES before. Much better.
My MLB.tv feed isn’t too bad… Of course, I don’t get YES network, so I can’t compare easily …
Who is that pitching for Cincinnati? I have the sound down.
Man, CeeKer, I didn’t even know I had the option to switch between the two.
AWESOME CATCH by Bubba!
Bubba and the D!
Bubba!
Curious about that myself, Chad. He’s number 64, looks like his name starts with an S?
It’s not Johan Santana, is it? Did I miss a trade?
I think they said it was Shearn or something like that
They’re calling it after 10 innings. But we’re still undefeated technically, right?
Game over they said: Reds still undefeated I guess, technically
Still undefeated, anyway…
Shearn sounds good to me. Nasty hook on that guy, huh?
Ha – we’re all grasping for that same straw…
I was wondering why MLB.tv just quit.
It’s great to be back here with y’all. I’m gonna brave the L.A. traffic now and head home to watch LOST.
See you guys next time.
Just got MLB.tv this year for the first time.. I take it you don’t get to watch post-game shows on there?
See you Dave. Yeah, it’s good to be back in the game thread. I missed it.
and FYI, it was Tom Shearn.
g’night all
No, CeeKeR. Just the game, unfortunately.
Seems like, during the first year I had MLB.tv, they showed the post game shows. That was three years ago, though. They didn’t show them last year.
ah, too bad. I was hoping I didn’t get it because it was only spring training. Oh well, it’s still better than the radio!
Wow. A spring training game thread just made it into the list of Top 100 most commented posts here at RN. It’s going to be a crazy year.
As someone who does not have MLB.TV, YES, and with it not being on the radio, I appreciate all the commentary. Thanks.
