Shawn has a handy-dandy list of which Reds on the 40-man roster still have options remaining. Does it surprise anyone else that Rheal Cormier and Eric Milton have options? Then again, it gives me an idea for when those guys start stinking it up this season.

Shawn always finds good stuff. Does that mean that Moeller has the team made?
The Padres lost Todd Greene today, and are in the market for another catcher. They also want a right-handed bat. Moeller + Crosby (or Conine) for a bullpen arm? Or a prospect? The Padres could also use a solid backup SS, since Khalil Greene’s fingers are apparently made of rock candy. Castro could’ve been trade bait, if they hadn’t thrown Ray Olmedo into the trash.
I would call shenanigans on that list.
I would challenge several points on that.
Supposedly – if you’re on a 40 man roster for any part of three seasons, when you enter the fourth when you are “optioned” you are subjected to waivers.
Belisle pitched for the Reds in ‘03, ‘05 & ‘06. Which means he was not only on the 40 man but the 25 man, and that would make this his fourth season, and thus “out of options”. Same goes for Elizardo.
Players may have “options” but 5 year vets can refuse to report to the minors and be subjected to waivers. Same goes for 5 year vets who are traded in the midst of a multi-year contract – they can demand a trade. All the guys that are listed that have at least 5 year vets (Stanton, Dunn, Griffey, Gonzalez etc etc) are all subject to that rule.
ESPN has an excellent breakdown of the transaction rules for baseball – I’ve had it bookmarked for years and would recommend it to everyone.

That’s because I’m always looking.
Moeller? I hadn’t thought about that. Although a trade is an interesting idea. I doubt the Padres would take two or three pieces of detritus for something valuable, but it doesn’t hurt to ask.
I agree, but they are down to two catchers (Bard and Bowen). The problem is that everybody’s need for catchers is peaking right now, when all the pitchers are in camp and they need guys to throw at.
