Blogs gaining mainstream cred?

Some teams are taking note of blogs and bloggers. Note first this article in the Washington Post about Nationals blogs, and how the team is being very proactive in their dealings with the “Natosphere.” Very, very interesting article. Heck, the team president is even emailing some Nat bloggers (though I must confess disappointment that Daedalus wasn’t mentioned; I like to think she’s more of a Reds blogger, anyway).

I also see that the Atlanta Hawks just hosted a “Blog Night”, offering free entry, a tour of the arena, free food, and a wireless connection so Atlanta-area bloggers can blog about the game. I’d say that’s a pretty good way to get some (almost) free publicity. (Of course, isn’t the Nats president the former president of the Hawks? I’m sensing a connection.)

Anyway, I thought it was interesting.

  • I’d say we’re getting more “cred” from the Reds organization also…the Dayton Dragons have been very, very kind to us and we will be having a surprise from the Billings Mustangs shortly.

I would like to see the big club give bloggers more credit..

  • I think Red Hot Mama is trying to work something out with Butcher about having a blogger day, maybe even trying to get us a chance to go down on the field during batting practice. I think Reds bloggers are on the radar, at least. I know we’re near the top of baseball in the number of team blogs and activity.

As far as the Nats’ blogosphere goes, I’ve never been able to crack it, but then again, I don’t write all that much on that team. Truthfully, if I leave DC, I’ll probably switch that Nats part to whatever team is in the city I live in, as I’ll never live in St. Louis or Houston or any of those cities with the hated teams. (At least I better not.) As I’ve posted before, there are several “surrogate” teams I like, so it wouldn’t be too tough for me to go to a lot of Mets games or Phillies games or wherever my wandering may take me.

  • According to this:
    http://striketwo.net/team_blogs.jsp

Reds blogs are currently ranked 7th overall in terms of posts/week, behind the Mets, Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, Pirates(!), and Nationales. -B

  • JinAZ, I was thinking about writing a post about those striketwo rankings and try to get some of the bloggers who’ve stopped to start posting again. I think it’d be fun during the season to try to get at least into the top three.

Great idea, Daedalus. Anything to encourage more of a community within the Reds blogosphere.
