This gives the Reds 3 picks in the first 52. I can’t remember the last time that they drafted so many players so highly. Let’s hope there is money in the budget to sign them.

Not only that, but they’ll then get three more picks out of the next 57. Here is the Red’s picks for the first three rounds.
1st Rnd: 15
Suppl. 1st Rnd: 37
Suppl. 1st Rnd: 52
2nd Rnd: 79
3rd Rnd: 104 (SF from Aurilia)
3rd Rnd: 109
Should be an interesting draft class to follow.
Krivsky’s rep is based on MN’s ability to develop young talent. This is a great opportunity to build that kind of a foundation – I hope he connects more than he misses.
His first draft looked promising as there were a lot of outstanding performances in rookie ball. The only disappointment was Watson, who was horrible at Dayton. It’ll be interesting to see how they do this year.
I usually defend Krivsky pretty regularly, but… I’m not sure how much of a role he played in the draft last year. I would attribute most of the success to Chris Buckley’s effort, as would Krivsky.
An article on the Reds’ official website near the time of the draft indicated that Krivsky took a back seat to his senior scouting director. ” I trusted Chris and his staff to do the right thing, and pick the best player in each round.” http://cincinnati.reds.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060606&content_id=1491219&vkey=news_cin&fext=.jsp&c_id=cin
Interestingly enough, that would seem to somewhat contradict later reports from Hal McCoy’s article with former senior special assistant Larry Barton that Krivsky doesn’t listen to anyone. http://www.daytondailynews.com/s/content/oh/story/sports/pro/reds/2006/12/04/ddn120506reds.html?UrAuth=aNcNUOcNYUbTTUWUXUWUZTZU^UWU\U^UZUaUaUcTYWVVZV
I think Krivsky listens to “his guys.” He just didn’t listen to anyone who was there before him, no matter who they were. Hell, he listened to Buckley when Buckley suggested the Reds acquire Robert Manuel in exchange for Dave Williams. (And no, I’m not letting that one go either).
I just went back and re-read that article about Barton. It’s almost comical – like it was me talking instead of Barton.
