Krivsky’s first off season free agent signing is 30 year old LH hitting OF Bubba Crosby. One year major league contract for $400,000. Jeff Standridge was also released today.
So is he known for his fielding? Cause he can’t hit a lick.

I think it’s a plan to make Norris Hopper look good:
Hopper Minors: .291 .347 .342 689
Hopper Majors: .359 .435 .462 897
Why a major league contract?
Bubba Crosby is a very good outfielder, doesn’t hit much, but actually drove in the winning run in 1 Yankee game in 2005 which the Yankees only ended up winning 1-0.
Crosby is a decent fielder. Nothing spectacular, but solid. He is a good fourth outfielder (better than Hollandsworth) but he is definitely not starting material.
Doesn’t quite fit Wayne’s strikeout profile
The Reds needed a player named Bubba.
The Tigers sign Sheffield from the Yanks… The Reds sign Bubba Crosby from the Yanks…just sayin’.
It’s not quite the same. I’d have killed the Reds for giving up three pitching prospects (or even just a single prospect of Humberto Sanchez quality) to pick up a fragile malcontent that I was guaranteeing three years of overpayment to.
Do the Reds have 3 pitching prospects?
I think this says more about what the Reds think of Denorfia than about Crosby.
Not that Deno doesn’t fit the profile of the type of player Kriv is looking for.
Denorfia profile
I don’t see how this makes any sense.
I heard this morning that it’s a split contract ($400k if in CIN; $75k if in L’Ville). Hopefully, this means he’s just roster filler.
A C. Trent Rosecrans article in the Cincy Post today pretty much spells out that Krivsky views Crosby as someone who will have to make the team out of Spring training.
“We’re going to look for him to try to make the team out of spring training,” said Reds general manager Wayne Krivsky said. “He’s got the ability to play all three outfield positions. He’s a left-handed batter and really knows how to play.”
“really knows how to play.” Is that good ole boy speak for can hit the cutoff man, can bunt, and can ground out weakly to second when a runner is on second?
“He brings versatility, a left-handed bat and outfield depth,” Krivsky said.
He’s LH, and better at defense than Hollandsworth and Cruz.
“He’s a guy that there was a lot of interest in and we’re glad to have him,” Krivsky said.
I’m only sorry the Cards didn’t get him. If he breaks north with the Reds, we’ve either got a lot of injured OFs, or Krivsky had a really bad winter.
This is the kind of signing that deserves to be buried in with 8 other guys of similar ilk, not the first move of the year. At least Krivsky’s not talking any nonsense about Crosby.
Got this article from Yahoo about available/prospective free agents. Thought I would pass it along.

hey, at least we got our Bubba!
There’s some pickups there.
I thought the same thing. I also found it interesting that the author did not like trading starting fielders for middle relief….
I’m still all for signing someone like Randy Wolf and taking a chance (assuming that the market doesn’t go insane and even guys like Wolf are getting 5 and $45 deals).
I also like Aubrey Huff and Frank Catalanatto, but that certainly doesn’t improve the defense at any position.
I’ve said it before, and I might be the last one in the nation to think so, but I would make a run at Vincente Padilla. I think he has some really good baseball left in him. I agree on both counts regarding Huff and Catalanotto. I would like to see a middle infield of Phillips/Lugo, but I know that won’t happen.
GC, I like both of those guys a lot (assuming they’re bargains). But you’re right, the defense can’t bear either one.
Well, the defense certainly won’t be any worse with either one. The other option is to start sacrificing offense for defense and sign an Adam Kennedy type, but if you want a no-hit, defensive infielder, I’m sure there are some in the farm system. I think you could afford to sign one of them simply because there is a need at offense. The only player with defensive upside you could take a risk on is Jose Guillen who should come very cheap to someone and, who knows, might have his career revitalized twice as a Red.
Don’t we already have a no-hit defensive infielder in Castro?
Is Rey Olmedo still in the organization?
Guillen again, huh? That would be interesting. I think that might work. Sign Jose and attempt to move Dunn for a decent arm and one of those “impact bats” we were hearing about.
Bubba was a pretty beloved member of the Yankees…all heart, good glove, just can’t hit enough to make it on a playoff team…should be good with you though
