Sweet Lou Piniella is back…

…in the Reds division. He’s the new manager of the Cubs.

Can anyone figure out why he’d take this job? Makes little sense to me.

Maybe Castellini had better re-evaluate their friendship.

Big bucks, low pressure . . doesn’t sound too shabby.

ESPN is reporting that Lou wants A-Rod back on his team. Not sure how they’d swing the trade (Rich Hill would be part of it, I’d guess), but an IF of Ramirez, Lee, and A-Rod would be unreal.

everything i’ve read suggests that ramirez would be part of the deal. Not that i feel great about lee and arod facing the reds 18 times a year, but at least it probably won’t be the three of them.

I could see something like ramirez and hill for arod and cash.

I saw that about Ramirez too, but he has the right to get out of his deal and be a FA this year.

The Chubs are due with their last World Series win in 1908 and last appearance in the Series in 1945 with Phil Cavaretta on 1st. base and Hank Greenberg and the Tigers beating them.

  • Now that Sweet Lou is in our division, I just hope that he doesn’t go around tossing bases again. If he throws home plate into our bullpen the game would be over. We know those guys could never find it.

He has obviously been assured that the Cubs are going to go after some major FA signings. I have heard ARod, Soriano, Schmidt, and Zito mentioned.

I’m gonna laugh hard if/when Lou leads the Cubbies to the promised land, especially at those Reds fans who just couldn’t see Lou coming back to Cincy and would rather have Narron.

I think John R., Ken and Al have to be onto something. The Cubbies have to be trying to get some free agent talent and with those signings, what does Pinella have to lose? He certainly can’t do a lot worse than other Cubs managers have done since WWII. It’s all upside. It’s potentially a lite version of the White Sox and Tigers story all over again for 2007 or 2008.
