Dick Wagner passes away

I forgot to note yesterday that former Reds President and GM Dick Wagner has passed away.

Wagner was always very popular among his peers, though his role in dismantling the Big Red Machine (which led to the struggles of the franchise in the first half of the 80s) caused him to be very unpopular among fans of the Reds. Heck, the first sentence of his obituary mentions the fact that Wagner fired Sparky Anderson. You can see why he wasn’t a fan favorite.

Regardless, he was devoted to the Reds (and baseball) for many years in different capacities, and Redleg Nation’s thoughts are with Wagner’s family this weekend.
