Game Thread: Reds at Pirates — 2006.10.01

Matt Belisle vs. someone named Shane Youman today as the Reds and Pirates finish out the string on the 2006 MLB regular season. Whether Jerry Narron does or not, I consider today’s game very important. A win today puts the Reds at 81-81. A loss means the Reds finish the season two games under .500.

Avoiding yet another losing season could be important, even just from a PR standpoint, for this franchise going forward.

I want this win. What do you think? Discuss it here.

Can’t think of any way to describe Encarnacion at first other than asinine. Throw wide of the bag, reaches into path of runner to catch ball, collision, off season rehab instead of meaningful exercise program. Why???

Not like I want Hatteberg/Aurilia to get hurt, but someone with some experience has much better chance of making plays effectively.

Why is Encarnacion at first a possible look at the future??? Is there a hot third baseman in minors I haven’t heard about? Or do we switch Votto to third?

No comprende, no entiendo, no hablo narrono.

I agree that it is dumb. Leave the kid at 3B where he belongs.

Also so much for the Junior playing in the last game talk.

Let’s score some runs and finish at .500 even though Narron doesn’t seem to be trying very hard to do it.

Nope. Doesn’t look like Jerry’s trying to hard for this one.

Typical Coffey performance – 2 quick outs, then can’t close the door. back-to-back singles with 2 out. Hope he can get the third without a run scoring…

It will be so interesting to see who the organization brings in as pitching coach.

If management wants to be a winner, and I believe they do, then they have to look at Narron and some of his coaches and see that they represent nothing more than mediocre.

    So much for .500

    That bites!

    Narron’s a loser!

So many things wrong with that lineup . . . and it showed in the final score, didn’t it? Very tough to ride a 1-0 loss into the winter, especially with a .500 record on the line.

Nice effort for Belisle, though. When he’s healthy he can get it done.

Narron has managed his way out of a job, if merit has anything at all to do with it. The more I think about it the more upset I get, so forget it, I’m going to get some work done. And go Bengals!, I guess. Rrrrrrrr.

    Time for a new username.

If they don’t fire Narron then I am questioning Castellini’s desire to win. Keeping Narron is too much like a Carl Lindner move.

18 straight innings without scoring a run. Talk about limping off to the off season.
That lineup was not put together by a man who wanted to finish at .500. From Narron on down ought to be ashamed of the way they approached the last series of the season.

BTW, it won’t break my heart if Todd Coffey’s not on this team next year.
