Everything I said about last night’s game applies tonight, as well. Thanks to some good starting pitching by Eric Milton, and a huge homer by Jason LaRue, the Reds picked up game one of this important series.
Game two is equally important. Kyle Lohse starts for the Reds, and he has been very good, for the most part, since joining the club. San Diego counters with Jake Peavy.
Keep those fingers crossed, and discuss the game here.

Are you kidding me? Dewayne Wise and Todd Hollandsworth in the starting lineup?
Damn, it’s no wonder we can’t score runs.
One out ,then a walk by Lohse.
Three batters, and a run already. Not a good start.
All you have to do is throw strikes to Giles. At this point he’s Dunn without the power or even his speed.
But he walks him on 5 pitches, and it leads to a run.
Struck out Piazza. Lohse needed that.
Feels like a rare event when Piazza makes an out against the Reds.
Yeah, really. Piazza is a Reds killer.
Lohse desperately needed to escape there with just one run allowed. Now, let’s get some runs.
Maybe Hollandsworth and Wise will drive in all the runs tonight.
Just got home.
Wise and Hollandsworth together? Ugh.
Now it’s the Reds’ turn. This lineup is a juggernaut! Think positive!
Ooh, bad start by Brandon.
Hope you’re right, DA.
Forget Hollandsworthless and UnWise. The top of the order didn’t look very good in the bottom of the first.
They need to pound some Budweisers and eat a bunch of dollar dogs and get this thing going!!!
FSN Ohio actually has a camera man for Reds games named “Tom Seaver.”
Aaaahh, an alias.
Wow, almost a two run homer. Glad that stayed in the park.
The pitcher doubles, and Lohse gives up a second run.
Things aren’t looking good for the good guys so far. Let’s get it turned around quickly.
That’s three straight balls that were crushed off Lohse. Down 4-0.
Way to respond in this huge game, guys.
OK, Giles can hit Casey-style gapshots too. 4-0 already.
Very bad. With Peavy on the mound, I am NOT optimistic right now.
Oh, come on!
5-0, and the boos are raining down at GAB.
They’re raining down in my living room too. Why is Lohse still in the game?
Oh crap, it’s Michalak up in the bullpen. This is looking very, very bad.
Early word from Doc is that Milton’s MRI showed no significant ligament damage in his elbow – had a cortisone shot and at this moment is expected to make his next start.
This is ridiculous! Who the hell is this guy on the mound? Someone has got to be impersonating Lohse out there. How many frickin’ pitches has he thrown already?
Lohse was due for a stinker at some point. Too bad it came tonight.
Last time Michalak came on in relief, things turned out quite well.
True, DA. Hope he does it again.
Well, finally some POTENTIALLY good news there about Miltie from DA. I’ll take anything at this moment……
Lohse didn’t even show upp…. actually I think he’s the only player on Narron’s
Team…
Jerry Narron has obviously been trying anything to make the Reds lose.
Take his horrible decision to pull Milton out and put Franklin, then Cormier in the game last night. As well as his over substituting and innefively PH.
Now he brings us into tonights game with a “here’s your chance” lineup, but this is not the time to give others a chance…. We need to sweep this series, Both Arroyo and Harang should be in the rotation, and your most powerful lineup needs to play every game…. But I think Narron doesn’t want to experience the pressure of the playoffs.
I’m thinking if we don’t make it this year… Narron’s gone!!! He has shown that he can’t manage a talented bullpen, nor his position players consitently.
Hey, DA, when’s the last time that Doc Kremcheck’s diagnosis on a Reds player was correct?
I don’t think Narron had a choice last night with Milton, given his elbow.
Meanwhile, EdE and LLm come through …
Dewayne just earned my ire for a while.
Right, I was just talking about the decision to yank Milton.
Thanks for nothing, Dewayne Wise.
Runners on second and third…
…with Hollandsworth and Wise coming to the plate. Good grief.
Hope one of them (or both) get hits!
Belisle warming up in the pen, too.
Hey, DA, when’s the last time that Doc Kremcheck’s diagnosis on a Reds player was correct?
Ummmmmm . . . . . when Abner Doubleday was a baby?
I hate Dewayne Wise.
He had a choice… There was Coffee, Showenweiss, and Bray in the pen, and he let Franklin self distruct.
That swing wasn’t so wise! This is great lineup that Narron has posted huh! Where is ryan freel!
Freel probably needed a day off, but that’s a luxury we can’t afford.
He was watching that hanger get jacked from the bench!
Why in the hell has Narron left Lohse out there??!?!?!?!? This is the biggest f’in game of the year, and he leaves Lohse in to give up 7 runs in less than three innings?
Okay, I agree, Narron is an idiot.
Oh dear. Well, maybe I can get some work done instead of being pained any further.
Now I remember why Minnesota gave Lohse up for an A ball pitcher.
Later,
Tom
This sucks… and thats exactly right… Narron just doesn’t care! I HATE JERRY NARRON! He just overlooks the urgency and importance of this 3 game set… We win three and were in it, We win 2 and it takes a near miracle with the limited amount of games left. He goes to Belisle.. we’ve all had our share of Belisle blowing games…. but maybe he’ll show his better stuff for a couple of innings.
I’m not happy.
We need some runs!
If we don’t score about four runs or more this inning, I’m going to go watch a movie.
Why would Standridge not be used … he’s a long reliever… right… Michalak did pretty good.
Just finished up some work….tuning in to the game….
….tuning back out.
Well, Harang is going tomorrow. A sweep would obviously have been great, but a large man once said 2/3 ain’t bad.
I will ALWAYS be a Reds Fan!
…but I have given up on Jerry Narron… He is obviously trying to throw the season!
But on a brighter note…
THE BUCKEYES ARE #1 on all 3 polls, and WILL BE NATIONAL CHAMPS!
The Padres just got their win in the Nati and Narron earned his payoff!

Peavy didn’t have to work tonight. Pulled after 6, only 59 pitches. Logical move on their part.
What a disaster. With this few games left, the Reds had to sweep, IMO.
In the eigth inning George Grande was going through the defense for the Reds. Chris Welch made the defining comment regarding Jerry’s management ’style’:
“I haven’t seen this lineup since March.”
I know it’s 10-0; but I also know that it is SEPTEMBER.
I quit.
Yeah. Narron is an idiot. I guess he thinks a team will be more ill-prepared when they don’t know who the Reds are going to throw at them and in what order. But I also guess he doesn’t realize that a playoff chase is not the time to experiment with AAA players as starters.
I was at the game… DeWayne Wise had some terrible at-bats (the double plays and all) but his glove work made it somewhat redeemable. To his credit… in the Reds’ best opportunity to score, this is how it should have occured. Encarnacion would have scored on Valentin’s shot easily. Again Berry holds up Edwin for no apparent reason (twice in 2 days). Following that, Hollandsworthless walks, then Wise should have bunted Valentin and Hollands over giving them 2 runners in scoring position (more than likely) with the potential to have Wise on as well (1 or two outs) then you pinch-hit Lohse THAT inning while you are down 5-1 and may be able to battle back. Watching that game was depressing.
Fact is though, Loss goes to Narron, Lohse, and everyone else but Valentin who all decided not to show up last night. HAVE TO WIN TODAY OR IT IS OVER.
I was afraid of this possibility – a sweep and they’d be legitimately back in it. Losing the series and they’d be done. But win 2 of 3, and they keep stringing us along with not unreasonable, but faint, hope. And now that’s the best that can be wished for.
