    The Lineup:

    Freel CF
    Clayton SS

    Aurilia 1B
    Dunn LF
    Ross C
    Phillips 2B

    Milton P

Jr. with the day off. Don’t understand Clayton at 2.

3 up, 3 down for the Reds in the first. Hope Milton is up for it today – I take some comfort that it’s much harder to hit one out at Petco.

Good start for Milton. 7 pitches in the first, and nothing hit hard.

Deno with a two-out RBI single! (With the pitcher up next)

The good guys are on the board.

  • Milton putting himself in trouble…terrible throw.

Lancaster is reporter Jason Johnson goesfor the Reds on Wednesday.

Another terrible play….awful throw by Ross.

I’m going to be seriously disgusted if Jason Johnson pitches on Wednesday (and giving the benefit of the doubt, Lancaster is only noting that Johnson would be on regular rest on Wednesday – no actual announcement yet). I’m going to feel very cheated if one of the very few 2006 Reds games on national TV is started by a castoff of two organizations just this year. And he got hammered at AAA! I’d even rather see Majewski start that game.

Padres have tied it up; an unearned run after those couple of fielding miscues. 1-1 in the 4th.

Lots of interesting tidbits out of the rest of the majors:
    • Oswalt had a perfect game into the seventh, and Houston had one hit and still won, 2-1.
    • Ryan Howard hit 3 HR. Phillies won.
    • Pujols hit 3 HR. Cardinals won.

Smart leadoff bunt by Deno. Wells isn’t the most mobile of pitchers.

Ugh. Marty talking about a very painful injury to Cubs C Michael Barrett, which has put him out for the year. Make sure to wear a cup, kids.

Nothing doing after that leadoff bunt single. Clayton’s bloop was just within range of young first baseman Barfield.

    ReplyReply
  • Justin Anderson

Grande had to praise the opposing defense again. “What a play by the 2nd baseman”. Yeah George, on what was a routine “bloop” as you like to call them. God these guys are tough to listen to.

“You swing the bat, you’re dangerous.” Hit for Wells.

    ReplyReply
  • DevilsAdvocate

Yeah, I meant 2b. Confused Barfield momentarily with his dad.

Oh, forgot to mention the “Best sports show period” comments. I guess “damn” is just too damn terrible to say.

There’s 2 outs, Milton – bear down! Brian Giles is not an easy out.

    ReplyReply
  • Justin Anderson

good… got out of that mess. At least we would know even a deep single couldn
t score Wells in that situation.

    ReplyReply
  • DevilsAdvocate

Whew. “The big ol’ big one” Wells is thrown out at the plate.

    ReplyReply
  • Ken

Friars send Wells home on Giles’ hit, and Deno makes them pay!

    ReplyReply
  • Justin Anderson

i must have hit enter there by accident. oops. Anyhoo… pretty dead here today, people getting their good spots for the fireworks tonight I imagine. I gotta head down there after this game. But I couldn’t bring myself to miss the rubber game of this all too important series

Wells will be out of breath after that effort on the bases. Reds need to take advantage of that and really try and work the counts here.

    ReplyReply
  • Ken

So Ed E and Richie are out on three pitches combined. Nuts.

    ReplyReply
  • Ken

    Heads up baserunning by Dunn.

    ReplyReply
  • Ken

Surprised they took out Wells. He was crusing through 6, and only had 81 pitches.

    ReplyReply
  • DevilsAdvocate

Huh. Cla Meredith pronounces his first name “Clay.” Clā relieves Wells to start the 7th. Milton due up 3rd.

  • Chris

Bochy’s going with his own “punt” lineup today. Mark Bellhorn-Manny Alexander-Wells is as pathetic as Clayton-LaRue-Harang was the other night. Of course, Clayton’s earned a promotion to 2nd.

    Hollandworth is useless.

  • Chris

Wells was beat. That baserunning did him in. Plus, it’s hot as hell out here today.

With Milton pitching, I like today’s outfield. Hopefully, the rest will do Jr some good.

This ballpark is ideal for Milton.

Eric Milton also relieved after 6 good innings. Don’t think I like this as a bullpen vs. bullpen contest, but here we are.

Maybe the Padres would be willing to eat the last year of Milton’s contract?

    Battlin’ Edwin…

    ReplyReply
  • DevilsAdvocate

Edwin wins the battle. He needs some more pine tar on his bats, though.

Sweet catch from Freel. The other guy doesn’t get close to that.

    Majewski is warming up.

    ReplyReply
  • Ken

Cormier has made me nervous almost every time he’s pitched. I like that deal a lot less now than I did at the time.

    ReplyReply
  • Chris

Majewski is coming in. No less than three days ago, Jerry Narron said that Majewski certainly wouldn’t be used in the 8th or 9th. Now, game on the line – here comes Majewski.

    Behind 2-0…. Cameron missed a double by 18 inches…

    ..and he beans him.

  • Chris

Majewski is all screwed up. Can’t find the plate. Mark Grant just said his release point is loused up.

Behind 2-0 with the bases loaded. Can’t get the fastball over the plate.

    ReplyReply
  • Chris

If Majewski could field his position… or Clayton, that’s a double play.

    ReplyReply
  • DevilsAdvocate

But alas, it’s an RBI instead. Baserunning hijinks result in an out, and only 1 run scores. 2-1 going to the 9th, facing Trevor Hoffman.

    ReplyReply
  • Jim McCullough

OK! I just tuned in. Why did they pull Milton after six? Why did they pull Coffey (when he is being effective) after one?

    ReplyReply
  • BigRedsFanInTN

The only person that is all screwed up is Narron… Oh and Hume!

What idiots.. they just can’t manges their talent!

Coffee in, and they pull him to put Cormier(Lefty) to face Piazza batting right. Then you turn to Majewski (2nd day off DL to throw junk)

All the time Showenweiss(can’t speell it) warmed up.

Who would you have turned to. Now were behind by 1.

I’m so sick of hearing Grande say …”got the third out but not BEFORE THE DAMAGE WAS DONE!”

Wow. What a depressing road trip.

    ReplyReply

No excuse for getting beat with Majewski on the mound. Inexcusable.

Narron got outmanaged when he put in Cormier. DId he forget that Mike Piazza was on the bench?

    ReplyReply
  • BigRedsFanInTN

It really hurts being a Reds Fan right now! This just plain sucks… Atleast they won;t blow it in the post season though.. but to lead us on all year and throw it away at the end.. Unless we sweep the Padres and Giants at home we can almost kiss the playoffs good bye. We need to finish the year .600 or better.

    ReplyReply
  • Ken

Yeah, the Cormier/Majewski moves were questionable. Both Weather and Schoenweiss didn’t pitch yesterday.

    ReplyReply
  • Chad

I missed the end of the game. Narron didn’t really put Majewski in with the game tied in the 8th, did he?

Anyone with half a brain would have avoided doing that. What’s going on with this team?

    What a disastrous road trip.

    ReplyReply
  • Justin Anderson

Yeah, 3-7 would have been pathetic enough as it is. Now we are looking at a 2-8 road trip that sunk them below the .500 mark. This just keeps getting more and more grim. Where has the offense gone??? This team is supposed to pile runs on non-stop… haven’t seen much of that lately. IF they are going to climb out of the hole they’ve put themselves in, they had better do it right away. Gotta turn up the heat tomorrow against San Fran at home. DAMN IT. DAMN IT. DAMN IT!!!! Had to get that out…. off to the fireworks, as they are going to be the only ones I’ve seen in a while in the absense of a Reds Team that cares.

    ReplyReply
  • Justin Anderson

Coffey should have definitely stayed on in the eighth. Save the rest of the bullpen for potential extra innings. And if you were going to make a switch… why Majewski… i don;t think last nights 1/3 of an inning has awarded him redemption for all the f-ups he has committed upon this Reds team and their fans. They have to win every series from here on out the way I see it. If they do lose a series, they have to sweep the next guy. This will be an uphill battle for them over the month of September. Damn this sucks.

  • It looks like Magic is getting everything up. He is only good when he can get the sinker to actually sink. I really don’t understand using him in this situation.

I remember way back when the Reds were tied for first place, up comfortably in the wild card, and trending upward. That was just nine days ago.
