Calling Kottaras a .233 hitting minor league catcher is an incredible mis-use of statistics.

1. I assume you're talking about his numbers in his first month at AAA. He had a .395 OBP at AA this year.
2. It's not even true. His AVG at Portland is .250, from what I saw.

The Padres got Wells for a .233 hitting minor league catcher. I can think of a .170 hitting major league catcher I'd love to pawn off for a starting pitcher...and I bet their salaries were comparable...

Hey, if you've recently acquired
Cormier, Franklin, Johnson, Magic....why the heck not? It actually makes more sense than some of those deals. Maybe their is a genius master plan here we don't see. If we have so many mediocre arms on the staff, then we can have 5 pitchers throw 1-2 innings each every 5th day. How's this for a starting rotation:

1. Harang
2. Arroryo
3. Milton
4. Lohse
5. Wells/Johnson/Franklin

Would Wells help? Heck yeah he would... unless you like running Chris Michalak?

I don't see how Wells helps all that much. The Reds would probably have to give up a prospect for the priviledge of renting Wells for the remainder of the season.

Bailey if he's gonna give you 1967 vintage Gary Nolan numbers, sure... but if he's just being "David Clyded" I'll pass.

As far as Krivskeys methods, I have no problem dealing the chaft from this organization to eat at the Buffet a little longer, note that word was "chaft" something Reds fans can't hold onto with hope to watch blossom into anything of worth.

I don't want to turn this into a Homer Bailey debate, but he's not on the 40 man roster and I see no reason to put him on before they need to or before he's coming to the big leagues to stay.

To put him on now isn't going to revitalize this team's playoff chances and only starts his clock before you need to.

It would probably raise home attendance (especially if he started a game or two at home) at a time when the Bengals are going to be getting the lion's share of the local public attention.

David Wells? Why, is Denny Neagle not available?

It's a good idea if you want somebody to go 4 or 5 innings & give up 5 or 6 runs.

Go with young guys who can actually throw. Somebody like Homer Bailey. That's a move that would get fans excited.
