My four-year-old daughter calls tonight’s opponent “the stinky Cardinals.” Is she a smart kid, or what?
Tonight’s pitching matchup does anything but stink. Aaron Harang for the Reds and Chris Carpenter for the Cards. That’s a big-time matchup, baseball fans.
Let’s hope the Reds can win, then we can watch Bronson Arroyo get his tenth win tomorrow, helping the Reds to a series win.
Discuss it here!

Yep, smart kid.

CF Edmonds

Defensive specialist Clayton fails to make the play. (Feels like we’ve typed that a heck of a lot).
Single by Sonny Boy.
Two on for Alberto.
Dave Concepcion, #13, bobble head night.
Aaron Harang going for victory 13.
Coincidence, I don’t think so.
Aaron in a lil trouble early.. hope he gets out of this.. We all know how much better the Reds are with the early lead.
Aurilia taking the night off.
Now an error on the proven veteran and defensive specialist. Routine grounder.
“I’m not perfect.”
E6.
Clayton sucks. Good thing Narron is playing him to steady the defense.
What does he bring that Lopez didn’t? Nothing.
What the #$%^ Royce… easy out and now bases loaded with no outs… Come on Harang add on to that 146 K mark
Harang in a hole of Clayton’s making.
Narron pre-game, the team that makes all the routine plays should win. So why is Clayton in the line up instead of Castro?
Clayton “has been something of a disappointment since coming over,” sez Marty.
I disagree, but only b/c I expected this sort of bullcrap.
147
“Did you see how far I was from the base? I’m not perfect.”
Good job, Harang. Now get Edmonds to pop up.
BIG K of Rolen.
Really, guys, lay off Clayton. He really isn’t perfect.
Edmonds hasn’t been seeing the ball of late… Good for us
If he can get out of this, it’s a huge boost.
Oh fuck.
Crap.
He saw that one…. Jeez, what to do!
Thanks Royce.
Here we go again.
That’s okay. We have our “Six Hitters plus three automatic outs” lineup going. We’re sure to score more than four.
Good play by LaRue. Maybe we should try him at shortstop.
I can’t believe that happened.
I hate Edmonds, a bout like I hate chaffing, Is he really that ggod or just lucky
Yeah, all of a sudden, the air went out of the room. Unbelievable.
I’m sick to my stomach.
Let’s see what we can get working.. Hoefully the bats.
Jr is batting over .500 against the Cards this year.
Well, that was a good first inning.
I have guests right now so, I can’t even scream at the TV. God that 1st inning sucked!
seems like monday
ARGGGHHHHH!!!!!! What is Narron’s obsession with Clayton???? I HATE that guy!!!
Clayton makes the plays on Ecks and Pujoles, and Edmonds doesn’t even bat in the 1st inning.
Listening/watching FSN, and Chris Welsh was commenting after the Edmonds HR how brutal GABP is on pitchers who make mistakes up in the zone. Anyone watching think any park in baseball would have held that? I lost count of how many rows back that went after 20.
“I’m not perfect.”
Hey, Adam Dunn hit a homer. Is anyone still watching?
34 for 44 and another stellar AB for Clayton
I just came back in the room and low and behold The Dunner hit one! We’re showing fight… I love this Tivo, It let’s me watch plays like that one Freel made last night over and over
After Edmonds homer I turned it off… needed to cool off. I am back now watching, but maybe I need to turn it off again.
Aurilia would’ve made that play that Edwin missed, but that’s okay. So is cancer, but it will kill you… Edwin we love ya
That’s 148 for Harang
Tivo that one … Is there any question about Freel… MVP
wow. Nice play there by Phillips. I thought it was going to fall.
That was BP
Phillips did catch that one right?
Okay co MVPs. IU thought Freel got it diving but Brand New Phillips snaged it…
We all know Freel would of had it, so no prob.
Phillips at SS???? Nah…he might be perfect
Can we get some hits.. Only the lone HR by Dunn as of now
So what about the new aquisition.. Todd Hollandsworth.
That little hug by Juan to Albert looked gay didn’t it!
nice grab EE !!
I’m glad Clayton is playing because of his defense, and Encarnacion is sitting because of his.
Seems like Narron has it exactly opposite.
Hatty-burger!
Keep’em coming, boys!
EE just redeemed himself… and then Hatteberg, Great. We’ll take it!
HR by EE, then one by Dunn and we’re right back in this one.
You just called the first part of it, RagTag!!!
HR for EE.
Has there been a game when EdE didn’t make a big play
Tell me why that guy doesn’t play every day?
looking good, EdE! Lets go Dunner.
Redmption and then some… That’s the Edwin we love to see in the lineup
Dunn Ks. Dangit.
But we’re right back in this game, guys and gals.
Tonite is dave Concepcion bobblehead night………..tomorrow is Felipe Lopez bobbleball and badthrow night.
I guess all the games he gets benched in place of crafty veterans
Amen on EE’s play. Even if he misses one..he at least gives it a good effort. Can’t say the same for #2.
Harang needs to get locked in here.
149 K’s for Harang
Make that 150. I must have missed one
That sucks!
bring back scott rolen. damn.
Can’t blame those last two runs on Castro.
If we could get some base runners, we could start putting up some crooked numbers, too!
Well, EE *has* played in 6 of the last 7. So Narron is learning.
Right now we have 3 hits, 3 runs and the Cardinals have 6 hits, 6 runs
# 151 for our big man on the mound, but a couple batters late
Homer Bailey continues to lead the AA in every category, but remains at Chattanooga, why… He should be starting in Louisville right now, and in the bigs by the end of the season
151… at least I think. LaRussa is actually arguing that one???
OK, a 4-pitch walk to get to Albert. Not cool.
Why move Homer Bailey? I hear there’s some 47 year old guy playing in some indie league in Fargo who is looking to revive his career.
Bases Loaded and Harang delivers a K to Prince Albert. Yeah!
Nice K to finish Harang’s night. Now they just need to get him off the hook.
striking out Pujols with the bases loaded….NOW THAT–IS COOL!
BTW..the guy in Fargo is a veteran and can play the game right
Well you know how busy Krivsky is.. We probably have 2 scouts assigned to him. .. Come on now we’ve got to start hitting CC
Harang’s been making Albert look silly all night.
I will ask this for the 500th time: Why do George and Chris insist on calling him Albert “Pull-hols.” His name is Poo-holes. It’s pretty pathetic that they can’t pronounce the name of the best hitter in the game.
Seems to me Carpenter is getting a couple of more inches on each side of the plate than Harang is.
There’s one.. Let keep it going
That’s what I’m talking about! 2 on and the bats have awoken
Way to take one for the team Encarnacion. Right in the forearm!
Bases Loaded and the Dunner at the plate! Sac fly. That’s one run. Come on 2 out rally!
And BP delivers a double to clear the bases and get every Cincy fan off their !@#$%^
And RC cost Harang a chance for #13.
I hate to admit it, but I’d like to see Castro up in Royces place. I mean he just killed the rally. Thats 3 outs, and an error by Royce so far tonight. Why is Rich and Juan on the bench, oh yeah Narron and Royce are tight!
I came home and tuned in at the right time. Looks like things started horribly tonight (Edmonds? Come on) but that was very encouraging for Phillips.
Replace Clayton with Castro/Aurilia on a doubleswitch. Please!
Clayton stays in, but that was a good play he just made.
But atleast it is not a loss for him.
I hope Narron is getting tired of weak groundouts from Clayton… but he does know “how to play the game”
Hear there’s another guy in Fargo. Previously played in the Texas farm system and then in Minnesota. He plays short and has post season experience. Only 53 and can still touch his toes.
Please, not David Weathers.
I don’t like this move, pulling Cormier.
He has been better the last few weeks, I’ll give him that.
But what a terrible K/BB ratio.
That pitching change by Narron looked like he was trying to be LaRussa. Unnecessary.
Glad it worked, though!
agreed. very Larussa like… Plus it is a 6-6 game. Extra innings loom.
Think he’s got a case of Bob Boone-itis
That being said, I hope it works out. Weathers does his job.
Well done Narron, use em if you’ve got em! Frenchy did well and he played his odds by putting in Weathers. Bottom of the 7 th and we should take the lead. Momentum is definately in our favor!
So who’s Narron going to now… Maybe Bray???
Good choice Jerry.
gotta shut’em down now.
c’mon Bray, you’re better than this !
darn it !
That was a routine out if the infield wasn’t in. Dang it! Well they saw Bray last night, and obviously took notes
[..grumble..]
what the F are you doing bringing the infield in instead of halfway with a clogger like molina running at 3rd?
Another good pitch hit for a weak single. Again I don’t like this move either, pulling Bray. And again I hope it works out.
Turn 2?
oh Christmas. Edmonds with bases loaded again. Narron pulls Coffey for Mercker.
OK, that’s 6 pitchers in 8 innings.
Wait, did Krivsky trade managers before the game?
Little scary.. had to go through 3 pitchers, but got out of it. Our pen is nearly depleted… Have to score some runs, Hatteberg, Jr, and EE can make it happen!
Make it happen, Jr.
I sure do like Scott Hatteberg.
Where’s the power alley jet stream when you want it?
Eddie, please be a hero!
No joke. I like Edwin’s chances here, though. Oh, well, LaRussa remembered his reputation and starts the wheels moving. Bet on whoever’s coming in to pitch only to EE.
Russo pulling a Narron.
Russo=Larussa. Doh.
Rene Russo?
Train kept a’rollin’ all night long!!
Good job Edwin!
Beat the defense, Dunn!!
If Cleveland is at home, why is it that Hollandsworth can’t be in Cincinnati until tomorrow?
Not quite. Up to Phillips again.
BP!!! Get’er dun!
Nuts!
Didn’t Ryan Franklin basically have a starter-sized outing just Monday? This seems dangerous.
too bad Hollandsworth isn’t here to bat for clayton to lead off the 9th.
devil’s advocate…….since Franklin didn’t have to pitch any high leverage innings and the fact that he hadn’t pitched in a while before monday I think it’s safe to go ahead and use him.
Can’t argue with Narron’s pitching decisions tonight. Let’s get those bats going.
Let’s put Issy into a tissy!
Certainly Franklin did the job, 1-2-3 to give the Reds a clear shot at it in their last go at it.
You would have thought that Hollandsworth could have grabbed his glove, a couple bats, and some underwear then jumped a short flight to Cincy.
ValentÃn K on 3 pitches. Next Aurilia, then Ross.
Let’s go back-to-back!
OK. I’ll settle for a 2-run blast from Ross!
There we go – 4-pitch walk.
I’m glad Denorfia is still able to be here instead of Hollandsworth. Pinch-runner.
YEAH!!! BABY!!!
Say, that David Ross is some kind of fantastic.
wooo hoooo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ross is getting beat to death and loving every minute of it!!!
CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?!?!?!?!?!
That’s playing the game with an attitude!!!
All the way back. Marty is stoked!
I just finished saying that Izzy hasn’t had much luck pitching to catchers when i;ve seen him pitch this year…………..WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Issy sure put that ball where it shouldn’t have been.
Over 41,000 fans got to appreciate that one… Walk Off …..
And this One Belongs To The Reds!
Great job by the bullpen tonight!
Wooooooooohooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That was awesome. Can we keep Ross and EE in the lineup.. please, please Uncle Jerry.
Good grief. As down as I and just about every Reds fan out there was after the Monday game, the Reds just have a way of winning in inspiring fashion. You can’t help but believe after these kinds of performances.
Frankly, I was going to feel okay about this one, even if they’d lost. Harang and the offense really kept battling. But to add a win – woo hooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Marty says that shot by Ross went off the BAtters eye. Ross sure has some power.
I can’t believe what I just saw.
He crushed it. Just absolutely crushed it.
Love that Ross.
It sure is great to be on the other end of the Cardinal games!
The Reds need to play “Some Kind of Wonderful” over the speakers after a wind like that.
No Doubt.. The pen was managed very efectively…. and they performed well… bit of a scare…. Really Ross nearly hit one out earlier and so did Jr…. Just perfect… Perfect finish…. Bronson WILL get his 10th tommorrow.. Got to love watching him pitch.. And then one game at a time all the way to the Series baby…. Wouldn’t the Series at GABP add some serious excitment to the game!
By Ross’ description, Issy provided all the power to that blast. He just put his bat on the ball.
Bo Derek on the mound tomorrow!!
The Carinal TV guys were counting the 5 1/2 game lead after the card win tomorrow. They got real quiet after that swing
sorry Cardinal in the last post. just excited
Castellini needs to continue 1/2 price tickets and $1.00 hot dogs the rest of the season. Throw in free parking and 1/2 price beer. Great American will be rockin’!!!
What was Wilson doing in the dugout tonight?
They are just letting Wilson get his last taste of the Bigs
They did Davey proud tonight!!
Too bad we don’t have a bobblehead emoticon.
I’ve got half a notion to take the afternoon off to wathc the game tomorrow. Can’t make the 6 hr drive
can anyone answer 1 or both of these questions…how many wins is that in the last AB and how many comefrombehind 9th inning wins is that this year?
Wonder if the Reds will get any love tonight on ESPN. I can’t believe that Freel’s catch was only the 2 on the big plays and a grand slam by Sexton was #1
And let’s give Narron credit when it’s due:
He did a NICE job fiddling with the double-switches, etc., and even batting for Clayton. I thought LaRussa did the smart thing, going to Izzy w/ only 1 out in the 8th, since once you pass Phillips, our lineup is terrible. Narron did a good job countering that w/ the double switches. Even PHing Valentin was the smart play.
I only watched the Ross blast about 10 times on TiVo. Is this fun or what?
Redundancy is what you get when your wife calls in the middle of drafting a post.
I thought Narron was just burning pitchers to fast during the game, but in retrospect, he did a fine job
See my post 187 for an example.
Too bad the first day of school is tomorrow and I have to teach. The Game is supposedly on ESPN and I can’t even watch.
He did it all right – even though Bray didn’t get it done, it was still the right call. And kudos to Coffey for getting Pullhols (I give up) with 2 on.
I guess I’ll DVR the game and just not long onto the net while at work. It will be tough to hold off.
7 pitchers tonight. A complete game by Bronson would be great!
Let’s see, Phillips with a big hit, Franklin with the win, The Hat goes 2-3, Ross with the walk off..Way to go Wayne!
T Jones should be juiced on the Big One tonight
