Dumatrait or Germano would be a better Sat option than Mays.

  • 2004 #4 pick Rafael Gonzalez got racked up in his firs start for Dayton last night, never getting out of the 2nd inning.

How long will the Reds have patience with players like him and Szymanski?

I say give Dumatrait another AAA start or two and then maybe call him up if he continues his strong showings

Dumatrait has got to demonstrate that he will consistently throw strikes.

A reference yesterday was made that Miguel Perez has had a hot bat. What’s his defense been like?

Bill, they can have all the patience they want in A-ball, as far as I’m concerned. Those guys already got paid – there’s no real downside to continued efforts to develop them.

Dumatrait is over a 4 ERA right now, he needs to be at about a three or less in AAA ball for a few straight games before he deserves a promotion. Otherwise he will just get rocked in Cincy. A 1.42 WHIP and 4.05 ERA in AAA would probably put him at a 2 WHIP and 5.50+ ERA in the bigs. Though I won’t disagree that he could throw underhand and probably be more effective than Joe Mays.

Miguel Perez is a defensive star behind the plate. But his hitting is awful. He’s sort of the Yadier Molina of the Southern League.

What has led to Perez’s 11 errors?

If called up to the majors, I wouldn’t be surprised if Dumatrait put up a pitching line on par with Elizardo’s last year: capital-A Awful. His walk rate has improved in the small sample at AAA but was not good in AA. His K-rate and hits allowed are currently substandard for promotion to the majors. He needs some more time.

11 errors? Wow, that’s a lot. I would say that as a catcher, they would probably be mostly throwing errors on attempted steals. But as far as I have seen, he’s truly spectacular at that aspect of defense. Puzzling.

I was shocked as well since I thought he was supposed to be a defensive whiz.

  • Chris….the only thing is, at some point they’re taking up roster spots of more promising players and are a waste of time. I have no idea how long that is though.
