Looks like it was a good day for the Reds organization yesterday … went 6-0-1 from the MLB down through the GCL.

As I keep looking at Olmedo’s numbers and having watched him play in person this season, I have to wonder why the Reds traded for Clayton with Olmedo waiting in the wings.

Is it because Krivsky didn’t want to plug in two AAA guys at the same time during the playoff push?

I think Clayton was just a throw in.

I don’t. Krivsky and Narron have both praised him and said he’s the everyday starter. There’s no logic to Clayton as throw-in, when you already have Castro (and Olmedo).

Miguel Perez is hitting about .370 with an OPS over .900 this month. If this guy has finally figured out what he’s doing with the bat, then he could be a fine prospect.

by the way, John Sickel’s assessment of the Reds Top 20 prospects is up at minorleagueball.com

I think Royce Clayton was a veteran throw-in because, ultimately, the Nats were taking on far more salary than the Reds. Krivsky and Narron said the right things because Clayton is going to be on the major league roster and you don’t just dismiss a guy as a budget balancer.

Lets admit it for them though….he was a budget balancer and Brandon Phillips should be at short, with Freel at 2b, EdE at 3d, and Aurilia at 1b.

Can anyone explain to me why Narron sucks so bad, and why he changes the frickin’ lineup so much. How are guys supposed to get in a groove?

And if the answer is for defense, he needs to realize…that’s not working!!

Why not just throw in cash, then? Clayton only makes $1M, which is $700k over the min., which means the Reds are taking on less than $350k for the rest of the season. If they wanted to dump salary, we’d have Marlon Anderson.

Oh god, not Marlon Anderson. My question is why Narron and Krivsky seem so reluctant to turn SS over to Phillips. Is it Castro’s .316 average since the trade or just a little insanity? Or could it be that the Rangers had reason to fire Narron years ago?
