Here’s a game thread for tonight’s game. Enjoy. Root the Reds on to a 2nd win over the Rockies. Tonight may also be the debut of the new Reds acquired in yesterday’s trade.

in all this trade hubub, it’s sort of flown under the radar that we only have 3 starters right now. EZ will be back for his spot i’m sure, but what are they going to do for a 5th?
i can’t imagine that mays will go out again… right?
hopefully Clayton can produce at the plate as uncharacteristically well as he did in RFK and this trade might actually have more value than it appears on the surface. the bullpen improvement is a no-brainer. It is up to Clayton and Deno to make up for our losses.
i’ve turned the sound on the nats game and turned it off of the reds so i can hear what tweedledum and tweedledee have to say about the trade. it’s just wrong. neither one of them looks right in blue, but austin looks like he wants to cry. i do.
felipe and kearns are sitting next to each other in the dugout (obviously) and they both look absolutely miserable. i just can’t get over it. i’m really confused as to what team i am watching, to the point where i’m hardly paying attention to the reds game. is royce clayton playing? please say no.
I have to admit this: My hatred of Clayton dropped at least tenfold when I saw that he no longer has that awful mop on his head. Now he’s just an inoffensive-looking bad player. We’ve had lots of those.
Maj does not suck (as he gives up a double, but it was a good pitch, down and in). Let the era of the New Nasty’s begin (or even something close to it). Bloop single, great. There’s an out.
not exactly dominant? well, if you want to get technical, kearns and lopez are 0-6 tonight, and felipe has an error…
Oh, I’m pro-trade…and one game’s performance is way to little to make any assessment of it regardless. I was just observing that it sounds like they’re making pretty good contact on him…alas…
Clayton drove in a run tonight, Denorfia gets to a ball that Kearns never gets to and even though Majewski gave up a run the single he gave up was a bloop. I felt a strange calm in the 8th and 9th. No way we win the game tonight if that’s Weathers in the 8th and Coffey in the 9th.
Anyone know what’s wrong with the Post’s blog? Anyone else think it’s weird that Marc had to take a weeks vacation? Is it that taxing covering baseball?
Denorfia has that much better range than Kearns? I thought Kearns was one of the better defensive outfielders?
Let’s say you were told that MLB was going through major expansion and reorganization, and the Reds had to protect 10 players from the major league and AAA level. Everyone in AA and lower are automatically protected. Make your top 10 list before and after the Kearns/Lopez trade.

Sounds like Yan is gone…
When did Bellisle get hurt again?
I can’t believe Yan got cut before Joe Mays. At least Mays has stuff. He has no clue where it is going but he has it.
kremcheck said belisle came to them and said his back tightened up again, but they hope to have him back in a week or two.

i can’t imagine that mays will go out again… right?
I’m betting they do send Mays back out unless Claussen is coming back.
Enough of that!!
Isn’t it nice having the ol’ lefthander?
narron better bench rich for a week for that.
This is the man you have top put away all night, AH!!
We ask RA for a lot by moving him around each night to a different position.
Let’s see Deno get a hit and relax.
Jennings has been doing alright.
Dunn is charged!!!
Man!! If we had know trading Kearns would charged Dunn this way we would have done it ages ago.
i know it’s got to be tough for rich, it just seems like narron has it out for ede, who could really be good.
What was the warbling sound coming from Stewart on the caught stealing call?
Felipe makes first error for Nationals. Don’t miss that at all.
yeah. on the first ground ball hit to him as a national. looks like the “oops” nickname just might transfer.
EZ is scheduled to pitch on Sunday, so no worries
it’s so weird, felipe is hitting right now, and he looks bizarre in that uniform.
kearns is up now. he’s playing center. god, it hurts.
hopefully Clayton can produce at the plate as uncharacteristically well as he did in RFK and this trade might actually have more value than it appears on the surface. the bullpen improvement is a no-brainer. It is up to Clayton and Deno to make up for our losses.
kearns gets a walk, talks to casey on base.
The best way to make up for our losses with Clayton is to not play him, put BP at SS, and Freel at second.
your right, that hurts.
i’ve turned the sound on the nats game and turned it off of the reds so i can hear what tweedledum and tweedledee have to say about the trade. it’s just wrong. neither one of them looks right in blue, but austin looks like he wants to cry. i do.
E: F Lopez (15, line drive)
Doh!
felipe and kearns are sitting next to each other in the dugout (obviously) and they both look absolutely miserable. i just can’t get over it. i’m really confused as to what team i am watching, to the point where i’m hardly paying attention to the reds game. is royce clayton playing? please say no.
oh. i guess he is.
Struck out looking on 3 pitches. Get used to it.
had an rbi too.
Not that far on Tivo.
Gameday says it was on a groundout. Doesn’t count.
(Though I know some love the old “productive outs.”)
Why does Narron hate Encarnacion?
Too many letters to write in on the lineup card?
I have to admit this: My hatred of Clayton dropped at least tenfold when I saw that he no longer has that awful mop on his head. Now he’s just an inoffensive-looking bad player. We’ve had lots of those.
LaRue hits?!?
Jason must want to keep playing
How long is Ross out? I think LaRue just needs some ABs to get it going this year. He hasn’t played often enough to get in any kind of groove.
My brother wants me to start a chant at my next game when LaRue comes up:
LaRUE! LaRUE! LaRue is on FIRE!
…is that an old joke? I know it ain’t true, but he did just knock in a run…
LaRUE! LaRUE! LaRue is on FIRE!
Catchy.
c’mon Harang… keep that shutout going.
Nice work Harang. Might we be looking at a Majewski/Guardado 8th and 9th innnings?
Wow…coming through in the clutch…
I was looking up stats on Junior so I did a Google. On the Google page, new and used Junior was on sale at ebay!!
Majewski’s debut…oh, please, please, please don’t suck…
kearns and lopez are 0 for 6 tonight, though kearns has a walk and was hit by a pitch.
casey’s 1/2 with a 2b and walk in the reunion.
Oh dear. 1st and 3rd, nobody out…
Maj does not suck (as he gives up a double, but it was a good pitch, down and in). Let the era of the New Nasty’s begin (or even something close to it). Bloop single, great. There’s an out.
Meet the new pen, same as the old pen. Ooh, and Dunn’s now out of the game if we need to come back.
Hmm…not exactly dominant thus far…
does Kearns get to that ball?
just one scoreless inning to start would have been nice.
heres the big test. 2 outs. Can he close the door?
not exactly dominant? well, if you want to get technical, kearns and lopez are 0-6 tonight, and felipe has an error…
I agree, al.
OK, the deal officially sucks.
the trade was about bray, the trade was about bray the trade was about bray the trade was about bray
Good lord. Put Phillips at SS.
Maybe the bullpen problem is a virus.
Maybe Dr. Krumcheck knows someone who can develop a vaccine.
you can’t blame that one on tex, that was all clayton. and NO ONE thought clayton was a good acquisition
not exactly dominant? well, if you want to get technical, kearns and lopez are 0-6 tonight, and felipe has an error…
Oh, I’m pro-trade…and one game’s performance is way to little to make any assessment of it regardless. I was just observing that it sounds like they’re making pretty good contact on him…alas…
one game is too early? ha!
no, just kidding. i think we all should wait a few weeks to judge everyone but clayton.
C’mon Merker….1 out
merk’s been looking good lately, i’ll give him that
can you imagine if the relievers left got out all of their suckiness over the first half? Mercker rocked there!
Bring Larkin back from retirement. He is probably just as old as Clayton.
This is Krivsky’s nightmare Friday, no?
Majew actually looks to have nice stuff, though I’ll be damned if he looks like a groundball specialist. They drilled a couple balls, though.
As for Clayton, this is exactly what you get. A bunch of feeble groundouts, some going through the infield, most not. And great defense.
Denorfia just HAS to come up to the plate with Corey Hart’s “Sunglasses at Night” playing.
Some excerpts for you young’uns.
And I wear my sunglasses at night
So I can, So I can
Keep track of visions in my eyes
Don’t switch the blade on the guy in shades; oh no
Don’t masquerade with the guy in shades; oh no
You got it made with the guy in shades; oh no
So is Yan going to Louisville or is he just gone?
yan was dfa’d, so he has to wait his ten days.
Maybe Deno should have Queen’s Under Pressure playing!!
Maybe the Nationals will pick him up.
Maybe the trade was the beginning of a plot by Jim Bowden to acquire the entire Cincinnati Reds team and have them play in Washington.
The next step is to turn RFK into a replica of Riverfront Stadium.
it kind of is already
next weekend is “paint the town red” weekend anyway.
not lying.
they’re chanting “eddie, eddie…” kind of nice to have a bullpen guy who you may be able to cheer for. note i said may, not a sure thing…
“let’s go eddie…let’s go eddie.” nice.
I know it kind of is if you overlook the peeling paint and the faded seats. They would have to add the unfinished “stadium club” section.
A 1-2-3 9th – how refreshing! Holding a 3 run lead through the 8th and 9th! Woo hoo!!!
YES!!!! Save #2!!!!
A winning streak!!!
How sweet it is!!!
May it become a long streak!!!
I can hear the fireworks! What a wonderful sound…
Everyday Eddie
and it was a 3-1 lead. they didn’t need 9 runs to win…
Houston trailing, 2-0
Cardinals pounding LA, 4-0 behind Carpenter.
Someone finally reached the 10 win mark!!
May Arroyo follow suit!!
I’m sure this has been covered, but Clayton’s error was his 12th…great defense, huh?
Plus Harang is currently the NL strikeout leader.

If Felipe had made that error, there’d have been all sorts of moaning and gnashing of teeth.
Nationals game thread from tonight
actually, the better thread is at Yuda.
that’d be the “gameday” link at the top.
Denorfia has that much better range than Kearns? I thought Kearns was one of the better defensive outfielders?
