Rookie

Billings Vs. Idaho Falls PPD

GCL Reds 7, GCL Twins 5

20 year-old Jacob Long (Reds #37 – 2005) went 2 for 5 with a 2B, R, and an RBI.  For the season the catcher from San Jose California is hitting .378/..404/.467.

20 year-old Angel Cabrera (Reds #40 – 2005) went 2 for 4 with 2 R, 2B, and BB.  For the season he is now hitting .281/.388/.404.

LOW A

South Bend 8, Dayton 3

23 year-old B.J. Szymanski (Reds #2 – 2004) went 2 for 4 with his 13th HR of the year.  For the season B.J. is hitting .236/.317/.434.

HIGH A

Dunedin 8, Sarasota 5

23 year-old Drew Anderson (Reds #13 – 2004) went 2 for 5 with a 2B and 2 R.  For the season Drew is hitting .294/.356/.446.  It is becoming increasingly difficult to write about the hitters at Sarasota.   Right now everyone there is either too old, or the right age and not hitting.  Drew is the only borderline prospect that has been hitting.

AA

Chattanooga 14, Birmingham 1

25 year-old Josh Hall (Reds #7 – 1998) went 7 innings giving up 6 H,0 BB, and no ER.  Hall, who pitched in 6 games for the Reds in 2003, struck out 4.  Since being demoted to Chattanooga he has a 3.68 ERA with 41 K, 75 H, 12 BB in 58 IP.

23 year-old Javon Moran (Phillies #5 – 2003) went 3 for 6 with 2 RBI and a R.  Since being promoted to Chattanoog Moran is hitting .327/.356/.405.  He has 10 SB in 14 attempts, but is still allergic to walks.

AAA

Louisville DNP

Almost 26 year-old (July 15) Chris Denorfia (Reds #19 – 2002) went 1 for 3 with 2 R in the AAA All*Star game.

I was at the Dayton-South Bend game last night. Balfour looked good in his inning of work. Got the first batter to fly out to Bruce and then struck out the next too without much trouble. Hopefully his rehab will continue to go well and he’ll be able to help out the big club soon.

  • Chattanooga had 16 hits, only one for extra bases..and still scored 14 runs?

  • Wood got rocked for Dayton for the 2nd time in 3 outings…cause for concern? Young arm hitting the mid-season wall?

Wood wasn’t good, but the defense behind him was atrocious. In addition to the 3 errors there were a few other plays that could have been outs that the defense didn’t make.

Sounds like they’re just getting him ready for the majors!

I was also at the Dragons game last night. Szymanski homer was a huge bomb.

And the defense was awful. Who was the 1st basemen playing last night? Is he supposed to have any upside, because in the field he is atrocious.
