23 year old Justin Germano threw 6 1/3 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. 29 year old Scott Chiasson pitched a scoreless 9th to get his 15th save.

28 year old Jesse Gutierrez had a grand slam (HR #8) to give the Bats the lead.

AA

West Tennessee 9 – Chattanooga 0

22 year old LHP Carmilo Vazquez (Reds #4 – ‘02), making his first start since being promoted from Sarasota, threw 5 innings, allowing 6 runs (1 earned) on 7 hits, 4 walks and striking out 4.

The Lookouts only collected 3 hits and nobody had more than one. Joey Votto was out of the lineup.

High A

Sarasota 1 – Ft. Myers 0

22 year old Sam Lecure (Reds #4 – ‘05) threw 5 innings of 4 hit, 2 walk shutout baseball, striking out 6. 24 year old Blake Hendley (Reds 11th – ‘03) threw 2 2/3 allowing only 1 hit (getting the win) and 23 year old Jan Garnado threw 1 2/3 1 hit, 1 walk innings for his 5th save.

23 year old Drew Anderson (Reds #13 – ‘04) was 2-4 with the game winning HR (his 4th) in the 8th. The second baseman, Anderson is hitting .292/.356/.446 on the season.

Low A

Dayton 6 – Quad Cities 4

Zach Ward (Reds #3 – ‘05) ran his professional record to 7 wins without a loss, as he threw 7 1/3 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits, walking 2 and striking out 5.

23 year old BJ Szymanski (Reds #2 – ‘04) had 3 hits, including a double (.239/.22/.434), 25 year old Habelito Hernandez had 3 hits (.268/.283/.368) also. 19 year old Jay Bruce (Reds #1- ‘05) had 2 hits, 2 RBIs and a walk, raising his numbers to .319/.384/.573. 23 year old Adam Rosales (Reds #12 – ‘05) also had two hits, including a double.

Rookie Ball

Billings 4 – Helena 3

Sean Watson (Reds #2 – ‘06) started his 2 game for Billings, throwing 3 2/3 allowing 3 hits, while striking out 1. In his 4 games (2 starts), he’s thrown 14 1/3 allowing 0 earned runs on 6 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 10.

Jason Louwsma (Reds #29 – ‘06) was 2-3, driving in 3 runs. In his last 5 games, he’s gone 9-21, raising his numbers to .328/.348/.443. Chris Valaika (Reds # – ‘06) and Justin Tordi (Reds #41 – ‘05) also had 2 hits.

Reds #1 pick in ‘06, Drew Stubbs continues to struggle, going 0-4. His numbers ae .231/.346/.338 thus far at Billings.

GCL Pirates 9 – GCL Reds 3
20 year old Rafael Gonzalez (Reds #4 – ‘04), who was recently sent back to the GCL from Billings for “health reasons”, got his first start of the season for the Baby Reds. He threw 3 innings, allowing 6 hits and 5 runs, walking 2 and not striking out a batter. Luis Montano threw 2 1/3 in his 4th outing, allowing 2 hits, 1 walk and 2 strikeouts. He’s throwng 13 2/3 innings, allowing 15 hits, 5 walks and 14 strikeouts with an ERA of 3.29.

2nd baseman Juan Martinez was 2-4 to lead the Reds.

    also, the us team won the futures game. Homer bailey pitched the second inning, gave up 2 2-out doubles for a run, but ended up getting the win.

    votto went 1 fo 2 with a singel for the world team.
