Aaron Harang has a chance to demonstrate why he should have been chosen for the NL All-Star team today against the Brew Crew. Let’s hope he pitches a complete game, because I’m sure that manager Jerry Narron will put in David “Steaming Pile of Horse Manure” Weathers to blow the game for Harang at the first opportunity. I’m sure Bill Hall can’t wait to hit against the Steaming Pile in the 8th inning today.
DFA David Weathers NOW, Wayne Krivsky!
Discuss the game here….

Sitting on my patio, grilling a brat, drinking a beer, and listening to the Reds. Let’s hope for a win to make this gorgeous holiday weekend afternoon complete.
Good start! 1-0 Redlegs
Sitting at my computer, doing work, but at least the Reds are on and leading.
Looks like Bush won’t repeat his last performance against the good guys.
Wish I could watch. Apparently today is billing day for MLB.TV, and payday isn’t until Thursday, and well, 2+2= no watching baseball until then.
It’s really important to take this series – the Sausages are only 4.5 games behind the Reds.
Has anyone had a better career against any single team than Bill Hall has against the Reds?
Roy Oswalt comes to mind.
What’s this day game stuff? I’d made plans to watch tonight on TV!!! Jeez, what am I supposed to do now?
Didn’t Glavine have some big success against the Reds also?
Boy, the Reds sure got screwed on allstar selections.
They need to trade for Hall, he beats them like a drum.
Reminds me of how the BRM never seemed to be able to beat Fred Norman, so they traded for him.
Same reasoning for acquiring Jack Billingham.
So Jason Schmidt is supposed to be available for trade. Will Krivsky make a play for him?
Ahhh. Lesser starters take note: After you get a huge homerun to give you the lead, go 1-2-3.
Ouch and now he’s hit! whoa.
Marty is saying the HBP on Harang was intentional. Beanbrawl brewing?
Do you retaliate if you’re Harang? With the Reds bullpen?
I’d wait for the BullPen. See if they can hit the BrewCrew batters as well as they can hit their bats.
Don’t put any more pressure on the bullpen. They can’t handle even the most routine situations.
Point well taken, Glenn.
Schmidt? I’d be happy with that acquisition.
but the giants are only a game out of first; i doubt schmidt’s going anywhere.
Intentionally walk a .179 hitter (LaRue) to load the bases for a .194 hitter (Harang). Whatever.
DA, surely you aren’t suggesting that Harang is a better hitter than LaRue?
Harang may be the worst hitter I’ve seen since Dean Chance (how’s that for “old school”?)
Come on Aaron…it’s way too early to have to go to the pen.
JR!
Griffey just hit one out? Woohoo!
Take that, Americans who didn’t vote for Jr.
Not suggesting Harang is a good hitter (though he’s worlds better than he was last year), but was more calling out LaRue. And thinking that it was sort of asking for trouble to walk a .179 hitter intentionally. But again, whatever. It worked for them.
And Griffey makes it a 1-run lead. Harang currently at 87 pitches going to the bottom of the seventh . . . can he manage two more innings? He didn’t do so great in the sixth.
didn’t need a crystal ball to see that happening.
Mercker can’t get anyone out, so who do you start warming the bullpen? Exactly. Weathers. WTF.
Yay! Weathers is getting warmed up! Hey, why not?
I see the bullpen has struck again.
Well, Harang started the descent into hell, and the bullpen came in wearing a gasoline suit.
Tremendously smart baserunning play by LaRue. Wow.
Dunner continues the clutch hitting
Adam Dunn comes through! And López stands at third with one out, representing the tying run. Griffey needs to do anything but K.
Dunn and Griffey for the win!
Or hit a grounder to second, I guess. And Freel needs to not be foolish on the bases.
Is the sprinter ready to go?
Reds lead!
Just as I say it, Freel’s aggressiveness pays off on a Griffey double. 7-6 Reds! Wow!
WOW!
This team becomes otherworldly patient in the ninth inning. I’ve not seen anything quite like it.
i wish i felt good about a lead. only three outs away, but that’s soooooo far.
Yay for making me nervous before the sun has even set.
insert Java-man song here…
here we go…..
oh god. i feel sick.
do you play to tie now? dp? what does one do with a bullpen like this?
All you can do is pray.
This team is effing killing me.
We had a great relief pitcher once . . .
Wonderful.
Sigh.
how do you add those runs to coffey’s era when he didn’t get a batter out?
i’ve had it. i’m not paying attention until krivsky makes a major bullpen change.
This team is effing killing me.
the bullpen is killing the effing team.
Never even retired a batter. Double sigh.
marty is speaking my mind right now.
You can’t lose games like that and expect to go very far. Unless something happens soon with the relief pitching, the Reds are on the downhill slope.
The Reds are going no where with this bullpen. They lose more games than they hold on to. If I were Narron, I’d just tell them not to even suit up, I’ll use the starters until their arms fall off.
It’s hard to take this team seriously when the bullpen gives leads away game after game after game.
If I were more ambitious, I’d go back and see how many leads they’ve blown over the last 2 months.
Bill,
I’ll bet the bullpen has lost this team ten wins in the last 2 months. Like the rest of you guys, I’ve been watching baseball for over 30 years and I cannot remember the Reds EVER having a bullpen this sorry. They just suck! If they released the whole bunch, I’d lay money that half of them would never pitch in the bigs again!
I hate to part with one of our starting players but there is no way this team is going to win without a significant upgrade in that bullpen.
