Game thread: White Sox at Reds — 2006.06.16

The defending World Series Champion Chicago White Sox come to Cincinnati for a three-game series beginning tonight.  Brandon Claussen will take the hill for the Redlegs, and I have a good feeling about him tonight.

Let’s hope Adam Dunn’s big three-run jack to win the game on Wednesday will spur the Reds onto a big winning streak.

Discuss the game here!

The offense just needs to relax and be patient.

I am getting sick and tired of turning on the game 10 minutes in to already see Brandon Claussen in trouble.

    You gotta be kidding me.

Grand slam down the line with 1 out in the first, off Claussen.

I think if Claussen continues to blow this one, it might be the final straw for him in this rotation. Time to call up AAA for some help.

Well, Freddy Garcia came in with stats about as bad as Claussen’s. And had given up more home runs this year.

Rock the house. Rich Aurilia can hit it just barely into the seats too, just like Crede’s. 4-3.

Claussen is just stinking up the joint today.

Why did Aurilia cut that ball off? Didn’t look too wide to me, and I thought Felipe had a good chance of nailing the runner at the plate.

Odds on a pinch hitter for Claussen in the bottom of the second?

Claussen’s a joke. Package this guy in a trade and get rid of him. The rehab project from the Yankees has not worked. Enough!

I hear you, Tom, but who would want Claussen right now? His trade value is in the toilet.
Best case scenario, you pay someone to take him off your hands.

What has happened to Claussen. He just stinks this year.

Another terrible cut off from the Cincinnati infield.

I wonder if Castro can pitch?

WIth the way Felipe’s been dodging groundballs all day, I think that Castro signing is looking better by the minute.

The problem with doing it just for defense (all stats from BP, and are relative to the average)…

Castro: 49 games, +1 fielding runs, -12 batting runs.

Lopez: 66 games, -6 fielding runs, +3 batting runs.

Prorate Castro to Lopez’s number of games, and that’s ~12 runs worse, overall.

I know, I know, sabremetrics blah blah blah.

I’m not saying Juan Castro is a more valuable player than Felipe, but he is a MUCH better defender. We have a lot of good bats. We do not have many good fielders.

True, but I’d suggest plugging in Olmedo if you really want more defense, as he’s less likely to be a complete black hole at the plate.

Of course, not even having Ozzie Smith and Brooks Robinson could save this team from the combined powers of Claussen, Mays, Yan, and White. Sheesh.

This is just bad. I just don’t understand what’s wrong with Claussen. He was good last year, and he’s at an age when pitchers generally take a step forward. Doesn’t make any sense.

Looks like Ned Claussen bit the big one tonight!!

    Is this it for him?

Without Brandon Flanders’ crap performance, the Reds win 5-3.

I’ve had my fill of Brandon Claussen.

By the way, when are the Reds going on the road again? I don’t think I can stand listening to much more of the Ol’ Grouch on XM.
